I am in the market for new wheels and tires on my 2010 SR5 4x4 taco. I am set on either a 16x8 or a 17x9 at 0 offset. Without a lift I would go for a 265 75 16. But I may end up leveling the front with 5100's and then about an 1-1.5 inch in the rear. My question is, if I go for the 265 75 16 and then level/lift, I would think I would be back to square one. So should I just go for the lift and 33's right away. The 33 size I have been looking at is a 255 85 16. any other 33 size or is that a safe bet? I don't want to do any CMC or trimming. Thanks in advance!

If you go 33s then you will want 35s...

As much as I would love too, I want and am going to keep it somewhat modest

Yeah go skinnies (255). With 0 offset you definitely can’t fit 285s without cutting. Even with more offset you’d need to cut something I’m sure.

What are your current tire specs and wheel offset/dimensions?

Throw current specs and new/wanted specs in there. It’ll tell you how much further your tire will stick out. Give you an idea if you’re gonna get what you want.

I can remember when a 265/75/16 was considered a big tire. My 1st new 1/2 ton 4X4 truck came with 235/75/15's. I think 265/75/16's looks equally well stock or with a mild lift like you're considering. Remember, even though the tires are 2" taller, you only net 1" more ground clearance. That isn't enough to make any real difference if you can drive. I've been using that size on my stock 2007 since the factory tires wore out 12 years ago and haven't felt handicapped.

When you balance costs vs benefits the 265/75/16's win. Going bigger creates a domino effect with much more expensive tires and the probable need to modify the truck. And there is more to consider than fitting the tires under the fenders. You lose power, consume more fuel and wear out suspension and steering components sooner. For very little net gain. But to some people looking cool is more important.

255s did not fit on my truck without considerable cutting. Plastic, lunch weld, cmc all necessary. No 2 trucks are the same, but how someone can fit 255s without any trimming is beyond me

I definitely want to protect the truck as well as I can while still enjoying it. Not to boast but it is a 2010 SR5 4x4 with only 30k miles! It was basically brand new and in this market I was so relieved when I found a truck!

What does it take to truly level out the front end, maybe 1/2 - 1 inch?

Can’t say but lift does not equal tires not rubbing. Wheel well dimensions and distance to frame doesn’t change with a lift.

Look into skinnies (255/85r16s or 255/80r17s). You can have 33s without worrying about cutting anything. There's a massive skinny tire thread on here

Usually the 3rd clip will level out the truck but you need to measure first.

I would stick to 265's they truly are the sweet spot for tacomas.

Yessir. The 5100's are nice because they will level out the truck side to side and front to rear.

Go measure the fender height of the truck and you'll usually find the left front lower than the right front.
