Could anyone with an '01-'04 regular or extended cab (double-cabs sit a little lower supposedly) base (Non-TRD) with stock suspension confirm that 31x10.5R15 tires fit without rubbing?

Stock tires on this pickup are 225/75R15 but door sticker has 265/70R16 recommendations as well. 265/70R16's are, on paper, a little smaller than 31x10.5R15 but I'm not sure if actual dimensions will match.

    upload_2017-11-8_10-47-33.jpgupload_2017-11-8_10-48-1.jpg

    Much appreciated.

They'll more than likely fit just fine. If your springs are sagging and worn out, though, that's not as much a guarantee.

You could probably search in the tire/wheel section and post there for more hits.

if it's 4wd the springs are the same. most of the 31x10.5 is not exact either, it's a little smaller. they just use those as rounded measurements

if you have 225/75 on now your speedometer will now be off if you increase tire size, be wary of that (for speed an mileage numbers).

but to answer your original question, yes, they fit fine.

I've had 31x10.5r15s on my Tacoma for 20 years. Including on the stock suspension that had 185,000 miles on it.

    No issues ever. Including wheeling.

Yep, these will fit just fine. Here's a pic of mine (these are Duratracs @ 31x10.5 R15).

Generally you don't need to do much up through 32's, and then you just have a bit of rubbing in the front on 33's where you have to bash the pinch weld behind the fender liner.

You can fit up to 265/75/16 with no rubbing on stock wheels and suspension(4x4 or Prerunner)

Gets you just over half an inch higher diameter than the 31s.

I would agree for the most part with all that has been said here except for one thing. Some '04 model 6 lug Tacomas came with a 'big brake' option. I can't recall the exact name it used atm but it was an acronym something like VSS or VSV or similar.

I mention this because a 15" wheel will not clear these bigger brakes on those '04 models.

Yes they fit. My brother runs this size on his 2001 stock suspension :) just mind the calipers for 15" wheels I run Borra .75 on mine

I ran that size on my 02 i used to have. They will not rub unless you have aftermarket wheels that are wider and have less backspacing.

Thanks for the info all, much appreciated.

Good call on the caliper clearance thing. This pickup came stock with the 15" wheelset and doesn't have the bigger calipers on there.

VSC, Vehicle Stability Control. This is a unicorn and I can't recall ever seeing or hearing of any. 4runners had this option too and I think during the last year maybe 25% had it so still a small #

very few past '01 came with the 15" steel wheels as they phased in all 16" (steel and aluminum). unless you bought this used and someone swapped in the 15" aluminum from the pre '00 trucks

That's not entirely true. I've been running 265/75r16s (BFG A/T's) ever since I got the truck in 2005 (1s owner put them on), and they've rubbed the frame behind the front wheels at full lock with the stock suspension, stock alloy wheels. They even still rubbed a bit when I put 5100's on the middle setting.

You can see here where the rubbing was. Right in front of the frame sticker.

They don't rub with the Kings any more... :)

Huh. Before I bought my current tires (Falken Wildpeak AT/3W in LT265/75/16) I did a ton of research and hadn't seen any cases of rubbing. Which wheels were you running? I'm on a set of 3rd gen 4runner 5 spokes, don't think I have any issues. But it's probably been long enough that I'd be able to see any rubbing, so I'll take a look at lunch today.

Stock SR5 wheels. I don't see a lot of people running into issue with rubbing with this size tire either, but it does happen. The other thing is my tires didn't rub in the "typical" places for rubbing, like the pinch weld.

It's funny, in my first pic, you can see where the tire rubbed with 100% stock suspension (rusted witness marks), then when I got the 5100's and put them on the middle setting (the "clean" witness marks). It would rub in a parking lot at full lock.

Granted, I was the 2nd owner of this (first owner had it maybe a few months, definitely less than a year, and I got it from a dealer in 2005). From the looks of it (hole in the skid plate, and a bent hole in a frame plate they presumably towed it out from, which was RIGHT next to the tow hook :frusty:...) the orig owner went wheelin with it once, got stuck, and probably went and bought a Ford or something.

So I can't really guarantee my situation translates to everyone else, but 265/75r16s definitely rubbed for me. A set of ext travel Kings fixed the glitch, though... :)

One more point mentioned here that I'd like to add on to also is that those pickups, like mine, that came from the factory with the 225/75r15 tires have speedometers and odometers internally geared for the larger 265/70r16 tires.

Meaning, my speedometer has always been about +5% off; Actual speed of ~65mph reads ~70mph on the speedo and my overall mileage on my odometer is 5% higher than actual total mileage. So, putting on the larger 265/70r16 or similar 31/10.5r15 tires would actually make the speedo and odometer accurate.
