I’ve decided that I’m going to go with 33” tires. I understand there will be an mpg hit, but I’m trying to figure out how I will minimize the hit as I commute 50+ miles daily. I definitely do not want E load tires. All the tires that are 255/80/17 are D rated and heavier then some C rated 285/70/17 tires. Will I get better gas mileage with D load 255’s or C rated 285’s? Any input is appreciated! Any specific tire suggestions are appreciated.

The lighter the tire the better as far as MPGs go, but you’ll take a hit on mileage no matter what

MPG isn't bad on the highway if you keep it around 65 MPH constantly, its the stop and go in traffic that will kill your MPG.

This is how I manage to average 16mpg with 315s. I drive on the freeway to go offroading then get on the freeway to go home. Thats basically all the truck is used for.

If I'm driving around town I get about 12, but I never drive around town and almost every time I drive it, its for at least an hour in one direction on the freeway.

Not in that size. I’ve got them on my SR in the stock 245/75/16 size and they’re great.

Different tire manufactures have different weights. Check them out online.

The MPG on these trucks varies so much depending on how you drive them. I'm on 285 E rated and get 17-18 mpg in town and can manage 20-21 mpg on the highway if I keep it 65 or under. Going 75-85 it goes down to about 15 mpg

Yeah I totally get it. Just wondering if mpg’s will be better with a 50 lbs 255 tire or a 45 lbs 285 tire.

Wider isn’t better off-roading unless you are in loose sand. There is a reason skinny tires are on most off-roading vehicles throughout the world. The wide tire fad is an American “look at me” thing commonly misunderstood with better function. Wider tires will put more strain on steering and components. Period
