im pretty sure ive heard of other people with 33s and no rubbing on the metal. probably nailed the right offset of rim and tire type to pull it off

I rub in the fenders with 2.5” lift and the pinch weld beaten some but that’s also because I have more of a true 33 as well as 12.50s which makes a huge difference.

a lot of the tires listed as a true 33 isn't even a 33, bfg for instance sells a kbro as a 33/12.5 and its actually 32.5 truly

Im running 285/75r16s and before I added the spacers I wasn't rubbing the pinch weld but was hitting the frame at full lock. All I needed to do was trim the plastic liner covering the pinch weld, it wasn't until I added the spacers that I actually had to beat in the pinch weld, although I was also on a 3" lift at the time :notsure:

I think I read somewhere here that a lift won't actually affect how much you can clear the tires, and if you can't clear them on stock height then you can't clear them with a lift, so really you should be able to run 35s at stock height with the same amount of cutting as anyone else with a lift. I don't know how true this is but it seems accurate.

I recently had the opportunity to score some free Cooper's. I have a 3" lift and currently have 265/65/17 Wildpeak ATs but will be upgrading to a bigger tire. Alot of people suggest I go with 285's. I prefer tall over wide. Do any of you have different suggestions??

255 will give you better height without adding extra width

    This is a helpful tool

Would it be effective on and off the road too?

A narrower tire provides more pressure per square inch and doesn’t weigh as much, but there are off-road capabilities for both.

That’s a loaded question without knowing what you’ll be doing on them primarily

wider tires do nothing except track on snow better and look cool. skinnies are just as effective offroad and better in mud.

Thank for taking a swing at that. I know exactly what you mean by it being a loaded question. I have not been able to find any definitive answer since I first looked up the subject in the first place, which was like a week ago lol. Most answers are similar if not exactly like yours. What if I was to say that my truck is merely a weekend warrior and when off road, will probably see some rocky places. Some mud(maybe). Might even do some minor river crossing here and there, would you still recommend the 255 over the 285? Not being sarcastic in anyway. Just trying to narrow down options.

Ok. See alot of posts tells me that. But alot of people here in Hawaii thinks otherwise. The Cooper's that I was able to score only have 255 for 16 in rims(I think).. How much of a difference would the 255 be from a 285 if they did make the 255 for my rim (17")?

I doubt you would notice a difference between the two offroad unless your doing some hard core shit like mud bogs or vertical rock climbs or driving along the polar cap in 6 feet of snow, if you want to skip the headache of all the trimming that comes with 285s I would recommend going with 255s
