So I love my first gen and I've noticed there's not too many videos on YouTube about first gens, mostly 2nds, and some thirds. I know tires are a popular, important, and for some maybe a first mod. Just wanted to show the community my video regarding fitting bigger tires/ thoughts and opinions (I have Toyo AT2's 295/75R16's). I am going to log my entire build as it comes so subscribe if you'd like. Hope this video helps my fellow first gen guys who want bigger tires though! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtn5vCjkT0A

How much lift you got? I'm running 285s as well with Icons set to 2" and I get pretty bad frame rub. It's obviously not a huge issue but it does rub. I've trimmed my flares and pinch weld as well.

@ThatRedYota I've heard that running wheel spacers to eliminate frame rub can cause more tire/fender interference while turning. I have no experience with that as I have never run spacers but it's just what I've heard FYI. Otherwise decent little video

My truck is completely stock with no lift on it and I have a bout an inch of space with no spacers or nothing on the truck. @Styx586

yes, a wheel spacer can get you into the fenders quite a bit but keep you off the frame, or wheels with less offset will do the same thing... you can manipulate the fenders and trim as needed, however you cant trim the frame.....also in the back you can use rounded phillips head screws to keep the noise and chunking when rubbing to a minimum.

More lift does not cure rubbing.... your suspension will still cycle to full compression, therefore your tire will still occupy the same space as it did with no lift... and most times people will rub worse because they think a bigger lift they can fit bigger tires. Now you rub even worse than before.

I think I want to get 1.5” spacers and a 2” lift. What are your thoughts on that?

2 inch leveling kit in the front, and it is the prerunner so it's the same ride height as the 4WD models. Best thing you can do for frame rubbing is go wider (new lower control arms, or wheel spacers, LCA's preferred) and wider fenders help with fitment, but toyota is infamous for tiny wheel wells, not much room for upgrading tires without some additional work. Oh and I forgot about wheels with less offset, this is probably the simplest and I would personally prefer this to wheel spacers. Totally forgot about that

Personally I just don't like spacers because they create and space between your two contact points (wheel and hub) and just aren't as safe. Probably okay for crawling applications but with anything that may involve jumping or hitting woops hard I wouldn't trust them. If you're doing a 2 inch lift do a suspension lift, not a body lift. Better quality lift and you get better shocks too!

Interesting but wouldn't this set your frame higher therefore putting you at a different circumference point on the wheel? (where the wheel is less wide or not a true diameter I guess)

The wheel still moves up and down into the exact same points as before the lift as the suspension cycles through its range of motion.

Yeah that makes sense for the front, the rear of course you could put new leafs that set you higher, or blocks. How did you cure your rubbing in the front? Or do you still rub a little?

The rear end still moves up and down and occupies the same spaces. The correct way in the rear is to adjust your bump stops to not bottom the shock out and to use shocks that have more droop(extended shock measurement) than the leafs allow... This still doesnt help with tire rubbing because you're adjusting to shock performance lengths not tire rubbing distances.

I cut my pinch weld flush and beat the wheel wells back with a sledge hammer. Than painted it all black wuth rubber undercoating so you can't tell. In the rear I have 6" cut out of my bed side and have rounded screws to hold my flares on.

Useful info man, learn something new everyday. I'll eventually have to get around doing something similar to mine. In fact when I eventually do I'll probably make a follow up video to the first one.
