33" Tire suggestions

    Thoughts on 33" tires? Is there a significant difference in road noise comparing mud vs all season? Brands?, tire life?

    I went with Milestar Patagonia M/T. Road noise isn't too bad.

    M/Ts are gonna be MUCH louder than A/Ts (All-Terrain, not all season). I have Nitto Ridge Grapplers which are a good middle ground between the two. Pretty loud for an A/T but bearable. Many good brands and options, all with pros and cons. Theres tons of info on here, do your homework.

    Falken Wildpeak AT3W
    Great tread wear for an AT, quiet on road and great offroad performance. Also reasonably priced compared to equivalent models.

    Not much off-roading, but want something to get me down the creek and back. Winters are rough, targeting snow, rain, ice. This is a daily driver so want maximize tire life. 60k mile tire if possible. Lower road noise with aggressive look. I hear faulken is hot tire but looked at cooper STT pros. Basically lower road noise without a wimpy appearance

    I would get any severe service tire, like the Falken AT3W, BFG KO2, Goodyear Duratrac or the Nitto EXO Grappler.

    The Ridge Grapplers, and cooper STT's are awesome, but won't perform as well in the cold as any tire with the severe service rating. Stay away from Mud terrains for winter driving.

    Many MT's are not that good in snow. The ones that are decent are siped but anything with big solid blocks is not what you want in snow and ice.

    That said, best tire I ever ran in snow (I've never run dedicated snows) are Interco TRXus MT's (on my Frontier). They didn't last more than 35k miles even on my Frontier because they were relatively soft rubber.

    Duratracs are great for my purposes. Check and see what people are running locally. You'll see why based off of terrain often encountered. People rave about BFG ko2 but where I was at they were one of the worst.

    Ko2s will never be seen on other one trucks. Some people love me but not me. Had them on a 09 duramax back in the day. Thought maybe it was just a heavy truck, but now that I have a set on my Tacoma they just don't last. (My own opinion)

    Agree I love the look. My father in law has a set 30"s on his F150 and commutes 80 miles per day. He's Going on 3 years and still look new with tons of tread left.

    I have found that the round ones provide the smoothest ride. I have three different sets right now on different vehicles. I have KO’s on the runner, trail grapplers on my truck and Goodyear wrangler on the ‘03. I honestly don’t dislike any of them

    Toyo off road tires
    I went with toyo RTs 265/70/17” some noise & the gas mileage went down for sure on any of these type of tires but love the look & rides Great!

    We had a little storm roll through and I drove back home and was not easy on them trying to find what they are capable of. Only have about 3k on em so still fresh but they did great in the heavy rain and standing water

    So far i really like them. I had KO2s before and every time it rained i felt myself hydroplaning and i practically drifted every single right turn i made. I haven't had the chance to drive the nittos in the rain yet but ive heard they're better than the ko2s. Off-road they were also better than my ko2s. Its harder to break loose on corners and i didn't slip as much going up steep gravelly inclines in 2wd. Only con is that they're pretty loud but i don't mind the noise. I really like em!

    Been researching tires and wheels for months. Watched all the great videos on putting 33 on Tacomas of every variety. Now I am ready to make the move. Just bought 17 -10 offset Stealth 6 Custom Rims on Friday and have narrowed my final selection to Falken AT3W either the 275/70/17 or 285/70/17. Both come as a C rated 6 ply Tire. The 275 is 32.4” and the 285 is 32.76 diameter. I really like the 6 ply option for off road toughness and on road lighter weight and deep tread of the 275. I have an Icon Stage 2 lift, and stock UCAs. I really don’t want to do a cab mount chop if I don’t have to while optimizing tire size.
    So for conservative sake I plan to forego the extra .4” diameter and .4” width of the 285 And go with the 275. Seems like a reasonable approach for minimal tire rubbing hassle. Seems like splitting hairs, but every mm maters. With the -10 offset I think the small width difference on 275 vs 285 will have some additional compounding effect on rubbing, but both will be well away from the UCAs. Any different views are welcome.
