I range between 16.3 to 17.5 mpg depending on wind speed. I'm carring full skids, sliders, high clearance rear plus tools, and recovery gear.

Falken Wildpeaks come in a 285 P rated, I think they’re only in 17’s though.

Exactly that. 16's are fading out in options due to more vehicles running at least 17"+ wheels.

BTW, I've ran 285's and 275's in E load and didn't notice much difference if at all (ride quality) between those and the 265 C load I am running now. However, the weight difference is noticeable in acceleration, handling, and mpg. About 2 mpg drop running 285's vs 265's in the Tacoma.

Go to 17's. On my Jeep I have 285/75/16/E's (Kbro2's) and the ride is so much worse. As the driver you don't notice it nearly as much as a passenger does. The Jeep's nickname is the boobie bouncer. I have 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks and I didn't notice a change from stock ride quality in general. Some weight in the bed would probably make it even better since I have the Icon Stage 2 springs on it currently. The truck's nickname is just the boobie jiggler.

I’m going to side with the OP on this one, I’ve had LT285s on my gen 1 and LT265s on my gen 2, will never run LT’s again.
OP if you wanna run 285’s in a standard load passenger tire you gotta upgrade to 17” wheels... I don’t believe any P 285’s exist for 16’s.

I have the 255/85 16s, E rated, love em. Don't do much rock crawling and the ride is "rougher" but to me it feels more like a truck should. I've got about ... 10k on them? I'd have to check my records.

Basically @rageman if you're the kinda guy that would post a thread wondering about ride quality from going to stiffer sidewalls then you're the kinda guy who will notice. Others on here claim the ride is no different, it rides like a truck should, or you need it to rock crawl are not the type of people that are concerned about ride quality as top priority.

It's all subjective, but I was like you cause I noticed my jeep ride went to shit, or shittier at least, it's not like a Jeep ever rides great, but you can always want to make it as comfortable as possible while still maintaining it's a truck. That's what I went for with my choice, and would recommend you too. I still have my Jeep for rock crawling too, even if I do less and less of that nowadays.

So your issue is... you're out of money and want a cheaper tire? You can get factory dunlops for next to nothing.

I read it as he just spent a ton of money on a King suspension, and doesn't want to ruin it by getting hard as f**k tires.

100% of the people reporting a "crappy ride" have inflated the tires to 80 psi as printed on the sidewall, which is actually dangerous.

I'm having some difficulty understanding the difference between "bouncer" and "jiggler". Maybe some video would help me.

That's just how some people in general are. If you don't have the same opinion as them they take it as a personal affront.

    - what? you care about trying to maximize gas mileage?! Go buy a prius you gaytarded hippy!
    - you don't want a rough ride all the time? You must not be a man like me!
    - you want to keep your BSM sensors? Just use your mirrors, and don't rely on any technology like a real driver! (rant keeps going while they ignore the fact that even the 2016 is the most technologically advanced tacoma ever)

These people crack me up. They jump in a thread they know they can't help in just to prove they're somehow better than you for doing things different.

I think op can get the geolanders and Michelins in that size they will be fairly smooth and quiet on the road.

I would also bet that those that don't care about the ride are younger. I thought my '87 IROC rode and handled great until I sold it for an '02 GT. I also didnt have A/C (in Houston) because it robbed power and anyone with A/C was a poser. It's all about comparison, and when you're young, you don't have anything else to compare it to. Also you're an idiot when you're young (myself included) so I generally ignore those folks on here.

Looks like I'll need to look into 17" wheels, though I'm not crazy about aftermarket wheels and really don't care for the 4Runner PRO wheels. It seems everything for this truck has fake beadlocks. Blech. The search continues.

Yeah, but those things are ugly as sin. I say I prefer stock styling, but those are just bad.

I suggest going light weight with wheels to compensate for the heavier bigger tires if that's where you're heading.
