So i just ordered my OME 3 inch lift in hopes of putting 33s on my taco. I was just wondering what any of y'all have done to stop the tires from rubbing. I would like to do little to no trimming at all. Let me know watcha think.

I drove my truck around for about a week before I had it trimmed up. It rubbed in reverse, at full lock and when turning and accelerating or going over bumps. It was extremely annoying and frightening at times. I was too afraid I was going to mess something up so I took it to this body shop that does nice work in town. $40 and I haven't rubbed since.

Just for reference, I have the OME 887 coils (just shy of 3" of lift) with 285/75/16 duratracs on wheels with -12mm offset and 4.53" BS.

I'm running 887 springs, 16" TRD Trail Team wheels (4.5 BS), and 285/75r16s.

I was rubbing on the little front bumper splash flap and on the inner corner of the front mud flaps.

I removed the front fender flap, they are held on with 2 screws per side. Then I used a heat gun to flatten the inner corner on the front mud flap.

I'm not rubbing anywhere now... But I haven't fully flexed the front either since I had the 285s installed. I have a Pelfreybilt front bumper ordered, so I should be good in front of the tires. Just need to see if a cab mount chop will be needed behind them.

Listen to OZ, you will want 255's if you don't want to trim at all for 33's

I have started a thread on the 255/85/16's on stock TRD OR wheels, 2-1/2" to 3" of lift, (885's and possibly 5100's). I've already got 1" wheel spacers and like the look they give the OR wheels. I'd appreciate your input either here, or in the new thread on your opinion if the wheel spacers will cause rubbing issues or not. I'm aware some people don't like wheel spacers. But....I'm bound and determined I'll be keeping them. I'm also aware that wheels with 1" more offset will accomplish essentially the same end result as the spacers. My objective is to get a taller tire (than the 265/75/16's I'm using now) and do so without doing a cab mount chop. I'm interested in your input. Do you think moving the wheel/tire 1" outboard from "stock" would cause rubbing issues beyond what could be cured with just trimming plastic. You can post either here, or at the new thread linked below.

I read some posts on here saying offset puts extra stress on the bearings causing failure.

I've read post's on the internet that say the earth is flat....;)

That said, I've used wheel spacers on a variety of vehicles over the years and never had an issue with premature bearing failure. Had a couple that went well over 200,000 miles on original wheel bearings and no issues. I've also used wheels with considerable more offset than stock and have no noticeable wear to report with that. From my observations, driving around in mud and water causes more bearing issues than wheels and tires do.....But that's just something you have to be willing to deal with if/when you go off road with a 4wd.

Yeah, it's definitely a distinct look. I'm just the opposite. I love the narrow and and tall look. I don't like the look of tires sticking out past the flares.

    Different strokes, right?!

Yes, adding a spacer will definately, absolutely, positively, increase your chances of rubbing on the cab mounts. And the mud flaps and pinch welds too. It really is very simple if you can visualize what a spacer or more offset or a wider tire does. It moves the outermost point of your tire tread father outboard from the hub. When you turn that point swings in a larger arc than without spacers and makes the problems you want to avoid even worse. To minimize the problem you would want to decrease the arc but that isn't possible without getting into the contrtol arm.

This is all accurate information...to the OP: I installed All Pro 1.5" wheel spacers at all four corners and experienced pinch weld rubbing on both drivers and passengers sides of my '03 Tacoma DC 4x4.

In the back, there was some frame rub (upper wheel well frame area) when we recently ran through Death Valley and had some off camber traverse action.

I just did a search as I am trying to pin point a front end vibe I have been experiencing (and came upon this thread) from 60-70 mph.

    Unrelated...buuut, related:

I have replaced my steering rack, brake rotors, drivers side wheel bearing, steering rack bushings, and tie rod ends, as well as brand new CV axles.

The rack needed replacement, and the rest was a result of the blown CV from my 3" lift and leaky CV boots. Long story longer, I just removed all my wheel spacers to see if they were the vibe culprit.

Nope...still vibing (just slight, in the steering wheel as metioned at 60-70 mph) as we speak.

So, I may re-install the spacers when all is said and done.

One other item: my hub centric spacers are a tight fit on the front hubs. And because of a mouse click disorder, I got lug centric spacers which I run on the rear. The HC spacers have to be tapped off the hub with a dead blow, where as the LC spacers just fall right off. Not a huge point, but my experience FWIW.
