I recently switched back to 32's (Duratracs) from 255-86-16s. Loved the look of the 33's but the power loss was noteable. Now I had the DC Extreme Country which were light (50#) for a 33. You owning a Pre-Runner being several hundred pounds lighter, may not notice it as much. I just got back from a hunting trip to Colorado, having to pass through hilly ass Kansas and Missouri. Now my gas mileage wasn't great, but it definitely would've been worse with the 33's due to a lot more downshifting. If I ever go back to 33's,a re-gear to 4.30s will be in order.

Going to 33" Trail Grapplers, I wouldn't say it feels like I lost power. The truck feels...heavy from a stop. Almost like its harder to push the gas to get it going. I think that's my driving style though. I'm fuel conscience to a degree so I tend to accelerate slowly. However, if you just step on the gas, it still nearly breaks loose the tires and takes off pretty quickly. I did see a drastic decrease in mileage. 16 to 16.5 mpg is the best I've seen since the tire change (and lift).

Edit: Someone else's post made me think...My RPM at cruising speed ie. 65+ is 500 RPM or more higher. That is more noticeable to me than any loss of power. Can't hardly get it to downshift into cruising gear unless going downhill.

WOW! Thanks for the input, buddy! So what size are you running right now and what lift do you have?

Damn, bro! But at least if you step hard on the gas pedal the truck move. I've heard of guys that they trucks don't move not even doing this.

When do you guys feels more the absence of power, starting from a stop, driving up a hill or passing a vehicle on the highway at 70 mph?

Now I understand why my old 2001 Jeep Wrangler V6 4.0 with 4 inch lift and 33x12.50 tires, moved like a tractor going up a hill. :)

I don't have a 2nd gen but especially with 3rd gen, the jump to 33" made acceleration that much of a drag...

    Re-gear definitely coming...

Do you really think that it's worse on the 3rd gen Tacomas? Why is that?

    Different engine, different gearing.
Its not heavier (contrary to above claims).

Went from 265/75R16 to 255/85R16 lest week.

Loving the slightly narrower and slightly taller tire on the truck. I have not really noticed power loss with the 255 and very happy with how it drives when I'm driving it.

Cruise control is a different matter. In cruise trying to maintain 70-75MPH the transmission shifts about every 30 to 45 seconds. This would be my main complaint against 33s currently

sorry ive been gone all weekend. I feel it around second and third. I partially think its also because its hunting for gears. But if never go full throttle in first ill chirp my tires so if I try to go at about 1800 in second its a little slugish. Once I am at about 55 it seems okay. at around 95 it starts slugging but I rarely stay in that area and I really dont recommend it lol. I honestly think its not to bad and its very tolerable.

I upgraded my tires and wheels this week, went up to 33s. I was dreading the reported power loss but I have to say I am not noticing much power loss at all so I am pretty pleased about that.

I was also concerned about how much chop I would have to do and or lifting in order to run them without scrubbing. I am running over everything I can find (full lock included) and I cannot seem to make it rub. I am gonna find a hill this weekend and test it sideways on it.

Over all I am happy as a clam that I upgraded.

Truck is a 2015 SR5, has a 3 inch lift and Body Armor front bumper. I already trimmed a bunch of the plastic wheel well liner to accommodate the bumper and removed the mud flaps so maybe that's why it doesn't rub?
