The tank is 45 kg which equals 99.2 pounds.

    Gas weighs in at 6.3 pounds x 20 gallons = 126 pounds + 14 extra gallons (88.2) = 214.2 pounds

A tank with gas would weigh 313.4 pounds.

Don't know what the stock tank weighs.

Ummm, two jerry cans bring me within 3 gallons - sure they take space but I have better ways to spend my money personally.

To each their own. No one ever said this is the cheapest option to carry more fuel, but it is definitely the cleanest.

That's the shipping weight which might be a bit more than the actual tank weight. I seem to recall some ext range tank being in the high 30kg range - 37 or 38 - as described on ExPo. Don't know if it was the same one though. Anyway somewhere between 80 and 90lbs is probably a sane estimate.

Can't find the specs, but based on similar capacity tanks from 1st gen it is probably around 35 lbs.

So the ext range tank probably adding about 50 lbs dry weight compared to the stock tank.

I wont argue that, it definitely removes the "banjo" factor -

Tank looks pretty solid. Do you think you would need a skid plate on it,,or is it solid enough on its own to go smashing.

I believe it would, especially since the original skid is junk.

I wouldnt go smashing on rocks with anything made of aluminum, especially a fuel tank. Aluminum has no give.

Ref Taco Lean, i just put on Dakar leaf springs, as well as OME Shocks.

Noted the leaves are marked for over, norm and under, but within specs. I put the over (+) on the driver's side, and the under (-) on 7th he passenger side.

I still have to line up the rear shock bushings to finish the install, but I'll let you know if it makes any difference. Of course, I never noticed any lean before in my 2006 OR

Note in the LRA FAQs there is this line:

Do I require an aftermarket gaurd to protect my tank?

LRA tanks are constructed from 2mm aluminised steel and fully baffled internally, therefor a seperate gaurd is not required.
Maybe the misspellings are an Aussie thing, but regardless it looks like they are saying the tanks are strong enough they don't need a guard like the OEM plastic tank has, but that is not the same as a skid.

Welcome to TW! Do you have an LRA tank in a 2nd gen DCSB truck?

This theory is irrelevant because all they are visually inspecting for during a smog inspection is the cat converter and all vacuum routing lines to be correct along with all original OE equipment and/ or CARB certified intake and exhaust systems. They don't give a hell about the fuel system. EVAP is the only relevant system if they can visually access it without having to break themselves trying to inspect it, in our case they may be able to see it, but as long as you have no codes in the PCM you are good to go.

Spray it black so it doesn't stand out in bright silver, then take it off road to cake it in some dirt so it looks like it belongs to reduce the likelyhood of questions.

If I got one I would rock it bare and tell them to piss off. Smog techs (myself at one time included) have never once been instructed or trained to look at the fuel tanks.

My bad, I did not realize they were aluminum.

Funny, factory skids are more like paper plates than skid plates.

Installing the All Pro IFS, trany and transfer right now but not sure about the gas tank.

Never dragged it but we'll see

    Not aluminum. Aluminized steel.
