Don't know how to describe it, but my tacoma exhibits a "drone" at around 40-45 and 60-65... When I let go off the gas, the drone dies down in about 1/2 second.. Anyone else have this drone? I thought it might be a loose heatshield but I couldn't find any obviously loose components.

Just want to make sure it is in fact my exhaust and it is normal, as opposed to a ujoint or diff.. However, given what I described, after letting off the gas and relieving the load, the drone dies out, so it can't be any of the moving components right? Maybe it could also be the air intake?

Does it sound like metal hitting metal? If so it may be a U Joint. I had the same noise. What i did was jacked up the back of the truck, put it on jack stands, and put it in gear. Hold the brake and press the gas. If you hear the sound it's a good chance that its your u joint.

Mine did it at the same speeds that you have the problem.

No it's a medium pitched smooth drone.. can't decipher any actual slapping noises.

Very much like this... Is thsi type of drone normal for the 1st gen 3400?
