    Hey Tacoma People,

I doubt many of you have as many miles, but I thought I would share what your Tacoma is capable of...

    UPDATE :377K Still going.

    My Tacoma:
2007 SR5 DoubleCab PreRunner V6 has 345,492 miles and has NOT broken down. Yes I have had to do some repairs which I will list from memory because it's a short list...

    1. AC blower was squeeking the miles were over 100K, I don't remember exactly.

    2. Transmission mount and I had the motor mounts done at the same time. Around 270K miles.

    3. I drove several thousand miles with a strange vibration around the same time as the trans/motor mounts were replaced it turned out to be the U-Joints. The worst one was close to the transmission, but the u-joint didn't break it just vibrated. It was severely worn, and I am amazed that it didn't throw the driveshaft.

    4. The u-joint vibration made the differential leak, so the seals were changed at the same time.

    5. Brakes. Now PAY ATTENTION HERE, if your Tacoma has original brakes, DO NOT replace them until you absolutely have to. I still have the original brakes on the rear now, but not the front. I discovered that even the OEM replacement brake pads are NOT as good as what came on the truck. I replaced the front pads around 178K, but they still had a little bit of life left, but I figured since I had the new pads and had it apart, I might as well go ahead and replace them, but I regret it because no replacement pads have held up anywhere near as long as the original pads. I talked to a friend who is a Toyota Dealer Mechanic that said that in 2007 the brake pad manufacturer used a formula that was too good. In fact he said that it was the same on his 07 Suburban, so the lesson is, inspect your own brakes, do not let anyone replace them until absolutely necessary. Once you replace your brakes, keep an eye on them, because they will wear out much faster.

    6. The cooling fan clutch is not working properly anymore, but I haven't overheated it. As long as I don't let it idle too long in the hot Arizona summer it still works, but it is on my to do list because at extended idle the air conditioning and the engine temperature starts climbing in the Arizona heat. Reving or driving quickly cools it back down. Also I still have the original radiator hoses. Sun Devil Auto on 43rd ave and Thunderbird in Phoenix tried to get me to spend $530.00 (5 years ago) replacing the hoses at 82k miles, but I said no, and I am glad I did. Another mechanic friend said that the modern materials used last way longer than the old hoses, so don't let anyone change them unless you are having an issue.

I need to replace the spark plugs again, but I have only replaced them twice. I change my own oil and filters using OEM filters. I use Fram air filters.

Batteries don't count because the Arizona heat kills them no matter what. I think I'm on my 4th or 5th battery.

That's it, I am thrilled with my Tacoma, what a great investment.

178k on one set of front pads? Do you only drive highways or something? That's incredible

Man, this is impressive. I always second guess my second gen because I am just not convinced it is as well-built as my first gen (no reason, just gut feeling).

This kind of thread helps put my fears to rest.

By the way I have a lead foot off the line and while I try to keep my speed reasonable, I am frequently in a hurry so both acceleration and stopping are not grandma style.

Ummm.... spark plugs every 100,000? Is it a 4cyl?

Edit: I love new brake pads. No way I could keep them that long! (Or tires)

Not doubting you, but it would be cool to see a pic of the odo. Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one curious to know what oil you use and what change interval you stick to. Congrats on the achievement!

Reassuring to read this... the brake pad life seems insanely long though lol.

Yeah congrats that's great to hear about another V6. Seems most people seem more confident in the 4cyl's lasting longer. I've been looking at Qnyla's 400,000 mile thread lately too (also V6). I'm planning on keeping my truck til it falls apart. i expect at least 300K, hoping for 400K, but the real goal is 500K. I've got a ways to go to get half a million. Living in the rust belt could make that a challenge though.

You can disassemble the clutch and inspect the friction material for wear. If worn, replace the clutch. If the friction material is OK, you can try replacing the silicone fluid ($10): http://www.rcplanet.com/Kyosho_Sili...f=4012476105&gclid=CI2ypaPZuMkCFYI_aQodzRMD7w

My 07 has about 1/2 that mileage and I thought I was doing good. Other than routine stuff I had to replace the HVAC motor at about 125,000 miles. Last spring we drove from GA to the Grand Canyon. On the last leg of our trip I felt a vibration and by the time we pulled into the GC campground I could hear the U-Joint squealing. Left my wife there and drove to the Toyota dealer in Flaggstaff the next morning. Wasted a day and paid too much, but was afraid to try an unknown independent shop.

I'm on my 3rd set of front brakes the rear brakes were replaced at about 150,000. They weren't completely worn, but had them done at the same time I had the front ones done. I've only replaced 1 battery.

Great attestation of the reliability of the Toyota product and a caring owner. I picked up a 2012 pre runner & have had to do a bit of work in the front suspension do to the previous owner having a "run them till they break" mentality
