I'd go with 4.30's. I have real 35's (325/60/20) and very pleased with them. With 4.30's on the interstate the RPM's are pretty high. With 4.56's you for sure won't be traveling 70+ on the interstate.

ok that is about the same as mine then 2500 give or take on 315/70/17 (34.4 on a paper) tires. I am good with 24-2500. The closer to 3k was what I stayed away from.

i have a hypertech to correct the speedo so mines only off a couple mph.

I do have some buddies with 4.3 but MT and they love it.

I would say in the end it depends what you are using the truck for and if your are heavier than stock. This plays a big role in gear size as well. If you are 600-1000lbs over stock on the regular that is going to demand some different gearing.

OP has shell, bumpers and I assume other armor.

Couple things I've learned about these trucks is if your worried about gas mileage don't buy one. If your really worried about gas mileage for sure dont start modding it, lol! Until we can recalibrate the speedometer (fuel air ratio) via the computer, gearing and gas mileage don't work like it does in most trucks. Just gear to how it performs best, you can't really gear for gas mileage.

I checked RPM with GPS last night. 265/70/17 tires. 2300 RPM at 65 MPH, 2500 at 70. Tires are somewhat worn.

My OVTUNE did recalibrate (fuel/air ratio, torque curve, shift points etc) the ECU and mpg’s went up. I didn’t regear for better mpg’s, though getting 15-17 mpg’s on 35’s is an added benefit to the improved performance imo.

OV does not change the speedo. You would still need to factor that. assuming you mean flashable most are supported. You can get HP tuner or hit up @JustDSM and he will flash your ECU. OV was good but no or limited support on 2nd gen now.

After reading this I am thinking the 5.29's I ordered might be a little much. Im just going going to be running 32's, maybe 33's, either way I will be around 3,500 at 65. But hey, thats what my civic did and it got great gas mileage, haha.

My vote is 488 also. I got 456 now. It's like the long travel VS mid travel. I regret it also. I have mid travel.

Ive got 33's 285/70/17 tires on my 2nd gen 4.0L V6 AT, and has been no power when accelerating because of those oversized tires. Now my goal is to either re-gear or OVtune and hoping to get the same or close to the original power.

33's with OV and 4.56 is money. that is what I was running and I thought it was a perfect combo. I am running 315's now with HP tune and a S/C and honestly may have enjoyed the 33's, OV and 4.56 combo the best. If you plan to go bigger than 33's (I also had 285's) you will want to go with 4.88's.

Looks perfect on my tacoma with the 33's, I dont think I would go any bigger than 33. I like how it looks right now. From your observation with your recent upgrade (OV/HPTuner and re-gear), what do you think is the most effective way to help reverse the power lose using between re-gear or tuner without sacrificing the gas mileage? I can only pick one of the two due to budget constraint.

I honestly did not see any difference in MPG. If you are concerned with MPG over other factors get C rated tires. The heavy E rated tires is what is killing a-lot of your MPG. Check sparkplugs and throttle body make sure thats all up to spec. If old or not cleaned could also kill some MPG. For me the heavy E rated tires killed my MPG big time.

Originally I wanted to go with E rated and realized that with 10 ply compared with 6 ply is way too much for a light truck. So Im trying to decide whether I should go with re-gear or Tuner in order to get back from low range torque. Thought?

I've been running 35x12.50 Super Swampers (70lbs per tire) on my 2015 since 2016. I ran them for almost two years with the stock 3:73 gearing. The truck did fine until i would tow my boat or put a 4 wheeler in the bed. If i did either of those two things i would have to take it out of overdrive to still keep up with the flow of traffic on the interstate without steadily downshifting. In 2017, i re-geared to 4:56 and let me tell you, i couldn't be happier. I can tow my boat up and down the interstate no problem without taking it out of overdrive and it doesn't want to sit there and switch from 4th to 5th like it did before i re-geared. The tires i ran for 3 years were the 35x12.50 super swamper irok ND's. I just put a set of super swamper SSR's on it. These new tires weigh 82 lbs per tire in the 35x12.50 (12 lbs heavier per tire than my iroks), so i went with the 35x10.50 SSR (76 lbs per tire). I haven't pulled my boat with them yet but i dont imagine it being much more of a difference than when i had the iroks. In my opinion, the magic gear ratio for 35" tires is 4:56. Assuming you dont have a camper top, heavy bumpers and such. Just my two cents.
