My 2006 Tacoma Doublecab TRD Off Road hit 350k miles this morning. The truck is still running great, and does not look or feel like it has that many miles on it. The Tacoma is awesome. The best vehicle I have ever owned.

    JB7B5607-TW896.jpg

I previously posted when I hit 300k miles:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/244798-300-000-miles-today.html

    and 250k miles:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/175926-250-000-miles-today.html

I thought I would share some information for those that might be interested.

The truck was purchased new on July 27, 2006. I do not use the truck for work.

This is how it sits today:

    JBCB9358-TW896.jpg

    JBCB9356-TW896.jpg

Some suspension and other work was done since the 300k update at 345k miles:

    • Icon coilovers were rebuilt and converted to extended travel
    • Replaced Icon 2.0 rear shocks with Icon 2.5 rear shocks
    • Replaced stock UCAs with Total Caos UCAs (and NO squeaks to date!)
    • Removed one overload from rear Dakar leaf packs

Since the 300k mile update, the repairs have been:

347,799 Replace front brake pads and rotors
346,113 Replaced RH and LH CVaxles (axles were fine, boots torn)
327,315 Replaced idler pullys and tensioner pully
325,291 Replaced clutch, pressure plate, TOB and resurface flywheel

    Notes on recent repairs:

    (1) The original clutch/pressure plate/TOB was replaced at 325k miles because I was worried that the original clutch had 325k miles on it. There was still meat on the clutch. See: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/244798-300-000-miles-today-7.html#post6805291

    (2) The original CV axles were replaced at 346k miles because of a torn CV boot. The original axles were working fine but CV boots were cracking. Replaced with CVJ reman axles because it was easier than messing with the boots. Pulling the axles allowed inspection of the wear on the axle after use with ECGS bushing for 52k miles. Looked like normal wear. See: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-bearing-vibration-thread-71.html#post7890440

This is the complete repair history:

347,799 Replace front brake pads and rotors
346,113 Replaced RH and LH CV axles (axles were fine, boots torn)
327,315 Replaced idler pulleys and tensioner pully
325,291 Replaced clutch, pressure plate, TOB and resurface flywheel
293,810 Replace LH and RH front wheel bearings
293,810 Replace LH needle bearing in front differential (with ECGS bushing)
    268,410 Replace Transfer Case Actuator
240,866 Replace front brake pads and resurface rotors
    226,735 Replace idler pulley
    212,186 Replace U-Joint spider
149,612 Electrical short, replace fuse block
105,041 Replace front brake pads and resurface rotors
62,659 Replace front brake pads and resurface rotors
62,659 Replaced rear brake pads (soaked in gear oil from axle seal failure)
62,659 Replace RH and LH rear wheel bearings
62,659 Replace RH and LH rear axle seals (Second Repair!)
29,013 Replace RH and LH rear axle seals
    10 Purchased 7/27/06

    Notes:

    Original starter
    Original alternator
    Original engine
    Original fuel injectors
    Original oil pump
    Original MAF sensor
    Original coil packs
    Original transmission
    Original transfer case
    Original power steering pump
    Original AC compressor
    Original stock exhaust
    Original catalytic converters
    Original oxygen sensors
    Original fuel pump and filter
    Original water pump
    Original radiator

on 6th set of tires (3 sets of Michelin LTX MS, 2 sets of LTX MS2, and now LTX AT2)
    on 4th windshield
    on 2nd battery
    on 3rd compass/temp readout
    on 3rd OEM shift knob
    51 oil changes

    Engine Oil

I have used Mobil 1 exclusively in this engine from the day I bought it. I drained the oil when I brought it home from the dealership. I use Mobil 1 EP 5W30 (EP=Extended Protection gold lid bottle), but have also used Mobil 1 AFE 0W30 (green lid bottle) a couple times during the deep winter months the last couple of years and think the engine sounds a little better after really cold (-10 F and lower) starts.

I frequently run 8-12k miles oil change intervals (OCI) on the M1 EP 5W30. I have run OCIs as long at 14.5k miles. I use oversize filters for the longer OCIs such as the Mobil 1 M1-209 or the Bosch Distance Plus D3422. I will occasionally run a OEM filter, but limit those OCIs to about 7500 miles.

Why am I running this truck this long?

Since it is still running great and has been 100% reliable, why not? I can afford new vehicles ( for example purchased a new 2012 4Runner TE and then traded it for a new 2013 Jeep JKU Rubicon) but the newer Tacomas are essentially the same truck, so I have not seen the need to replace it yet. Another reason is that I have twin boys that will start driving in about a year, and I am saving the truck for them to use in High School. The biggest reason: It is fun to drive.

How far am I planning on taking it?

I'd like to see 400k miles on it. That would be cool.

    Where. Do. You. Drive. To?
    Thats incredible!
My '05 has 128K and i hope it lasts until 228K. Last year i drove 30K miles.

By the time i get up to those miles, it may need some new suspension, definitely new tires, and that's what scares me. But i guess as long as it's paid off and not nickel and diming me, it'll be worth it.

    Hope you see 400K!

Just curious, you don't drive the truck for work, how are you averaging almost 45,000 miles/year?
