I've been curious about it too. Even with 35s the stock brakes always seemed fine. Maybe I've just owned shitboxes that set the bar tooooo low :notsure:

Nothing IMO with 33s and some weight on my truck. Braking has never been an issue.

I also downshift a lot to save brakes in general, why wear your brakes when you can wear a clutch right.

Hm maybe I should rethink that one

    100%

The problem with Tacoma brakes isn't stopping power, really. It is that the rotors can get hot and warp if the truck is heavier than stock. Tundra rotors solve that, and 13WL calipers give more than enough stopping power to easily lock up the fronts with even the heaviest load.

Even larger calipers/rotors really aren't necessary - esp. at that price.

    Nothing, in most cases.

I just throw it in 1st or 2nd and never touch the brakes coming off the mountain. With 33’s and nearly 1000 pounds of shit in the bed

usually end up using the skinny pedal.

    Lol yup.
It's a performance upgrade, the way I see it. It's for those who NEED performance. Plus that's a 2pc rotor with RB's center-mount design.

I also find it funny that some will spend about $2k on cosmetic upgrades. Lift kit, rims/tires, lights, etc. (which I envy & want)

What do you think of an upgrade like the one I mentioned? For ~$1k (Just the caliper) That caliper in the picture actually uses the same exact pad as our stock pads. PD647 (Tacoma)

    That's a good point.
I actually already had them on hand and was going to do the swap but I backed off last minute. I don't haul or anything, so I decided to do the SS lines and semi-metallic pads instead.
    Huge difference!

I think anything more than the tundra brake upgrade (all in for ~$300) is likely to be above and beyond what anyone who doesn't race Baja actually needs. And they can do it with stock 16" wheels.

As others have said, the Tundra brakes are more than good enough to stop our trucks when you add some weight and big tires, as they are designed to stop a vehicle that weight almost 50% more than ours do.

This is an enthusiast forum, not a racing forum. While there are some people here who legitimately race or have or have oil tycoon type money to throw at their trucks, I think you'd be better served advertising these on a race forum.

So yeah, I think a grand for calipers is a bit steep given the alternatives, and this is coming from someone who spent over $2k on my suspension.

Nah. You need to think about it not as which one is more expensive to fix, but which one is more important to preserve in case of an emergency.

If your transmission or clutch blows, you still have brakes to stop you, but if your brakes fail, well, that kinda sucks.
