Just curious have many people done this? If so what gearing do you have? I wanna say I have 4:11 and 285/75/16 now and it's not bad in the city and at higher speeds like interstate defiantly slugs behind some but what hearing would be needed for this?

You may have 4.56s, not 4.10s. You can tell from the code on the sticker on the door jam.

i think the pre runners came with the taller gearing, where as the 4xs have the 4.56.

i have an auto 2.7 with 35s...but mine has factory 4.56s. It is driveable...and does ok, But with 4.11 or even 4.3 yours is going to be a complete dog and will not be much fun.

luckily to regear is only half what mine costs, and the rear is a lot easier than the front if you had one.

I'll check that tomorrow and see. If I had 4.56 ro you think 35s would be ok on it?

I ended up going with 5.29's on my truck and I'm only running 33's. Had 4.88's on my last pickup and always seemed like I wanted more so I bumped down again and really like it. Only gained like 270-300 rpm @ 65. Much more pep now then before the gear change. I think your little motor would be asked to work pretty hard on your stock gearing even if you have 4.56's, @ that ratio 33's would be more appropriate and your milage wouldn't be quite as TERRIBLE Haha.

Just use a ratio calculator online. You type in your stock tire size, your stock gear and the new tire size you want to go with and it will tell you what gear to use so that your engine turns the same RPM as stock but with the larger tires.

Ive got a 04 Pre-runner 2.7 Auto on 305/70/16's.. MY truck originally came with 3.90? or 3.93? Something like that.. I went to a 4.88 and I'm really satisfied with it. I run at 2600-2700 RPMS on the Highway at 70-75 and I never have to run with the OD off. I even tow a 5x10 trailer and it runs good.. 4.88 all the way..I average 23 MPG

Got 5.29s on mine. Except mine is a 5speed. I was on the fence between 4.88 or 5.29s. Decided on the 5.29s because i tow a trailer sometimes as well and wanted to also compensate for the extra wheight of the lift kit. Sooo 5.29's i went and im glad i did

hell, I got a 2.7 with a 5 spd and 4.10s and I wish I had lower gears running 31"s. Couldn't imagine how gutless it would be with 35"s.
