quite true. I don't feel bad dropping to 4th or 3rd gear when I'm passing stations with premium for $2.00

I've been on stock gears for over a year on 35's and it does just fine. I don't have any complaints to be honest. Would being geared to 4.56 be best, of course! But overall the stock gears haven't put me in a bad situation and they've done just fine on the recent road trip to moab when putting over 2800 miles in 10 days. Mostly highway at speeds of 70-80 in some parts.

    Wouldn't 4.56 be best for 33's? Like 285s

I would think 4.88 would be best for 35s

some food for thought for anyone in the market for either item.....

my roof rack is a bigger hindrance to highway performance and drivability than the 35s on stock gears.

Thats the age old debate in the 35's on 3" lift thread. I think it comes down to personal preference for people and what they want to achieve with each of the gearings as it affects different areas of accelerations / top speed / etc.

Thats why I haven't upgraded yet... can't decide  :p

I was asking for myself as well.

I want to go to 4.56 gears but I only run 285/70/17s

home built with some tall lights. the comparison though was not so much to say that the rack makes a huge difference, but more to say that the tires aren't that bad, and that there are other things that will affect driving just as much as big tires, that most people don't think about.

    enough to go over stuff
4.56 = lower rpms at highway speed. Actually pretty close to stock rpms with 35s.
4.88 = Higher RPMs on the freeway but great speed control when crawling offroad.

I went from 33's to 35's a few years back and I'm running stock gears. It runs just fine. My 35's are actually a little lighter than my old 33's were. I'm actually going to drop back down to a 33 or 34 in February.

been on 35s with stock gears for a little over a month now, definitely slower on the highway and up hills.

    totally worth it though
