Engage Offroad long travel front and rear with some fat tires.
most will go with 4.85 on 35s for an all around... im running 5.29 on 35s which aren't the greatest on road but are awesome in the dirt...

some have had good MPG with 4.56 on your year assuming it's 4.0...

15's won't fit a 05 and up. General consensus is 4.56 for manual and 4.88 for automatic for second gen tacomas.
