At the risk of sounding like an old man, it's not worth it to go to 37s, especially as a straight jump from 30s-31s. You're hinting at paying someone to do the work even if it's just to tub, the costs will be much greater than you think. FWIW I tubbed as much as I could and the DS tire still rubs the inner fender AND my foot rubs the inner fender when clutching. And that's with just 35s that measure closer to 33.75" actual height.

You can go A LOT of places on 33s with armor and lockers. 35"+ add a lot of stress even when you are "taking it easy"

I blew up a chromoly RCV that cost $600 with 35s on one trail that I had run years prior on 31s. I was just in 4 low going up a rocky incline when it let loose. Likewise, blew up a CV on another trail that I had done on 31s previously. I wasn't going particularly hard.

You have to keep in mind it's not just the CVs that get beat up. Your tie rod ends, tie rods, steering rack, steering rack bushings, ball joints, control arm bushings, and power steering pump also suffer more wear and tear. Even with a big PS cooler I've killed several power steering pumps in a few thousand miles on 35s. Are you prepared to do the work to keep up with all these other aspects of wear and tear? If not, are you prepared to pay someone else to do it?

Are you ready to spend money regearing to make the truck drivable again once 37s are on it? budget another $2-3000 for gears and a front locker. If you're really set on 37s I'd consider selling your truck and keeping an eye out for a solid axle swapped truck on 35-37s for $10-$15k. If the truck was built correctly they sunk far more time and money into making it nice than it would cost you to build the same truck.

My $350 set of used 35" tires has cost me in the $4K range at this point for parts only. It has only been 8K~ miles since I "upgraded" from 33s. That doesn't include the time and cost to tub the firewall or trim the fenders, which will probably add $500-1200 to your costs if you do not do yourself.

I was so frustrated of being in the loop of going wheeling one weekend then spending 3 weekends fixing shit that broke out last trip that I bought another truck to wheel while I take care of all the issues on my Tacoma.

As always YMMV, plenty of dudes have rocked 35s and 37s and had better luck than I. I don't mean to discourage you but perhaps encourage you to be honest with yourself about whether a smaller setup would still meet your needs and save you a lot of time and sanity down the road.

a topic i haven't seen (may have skipped over)- front diffs

RCV and LOTUS axles seem like nice upgrades but is anyone seeing front diff failures from running 35/37s? I can see bad things happening with the passenger side extension housing if you had a front locker and some chromoly caged CVs

@snotaco has taken out a couple 4.30 front diffs. He’s on 37” right now. I replaced the ADD tube with a non ADD tube up front, and am still using ADD style CV’s, for the larger diameter.

x2, if youre putting 37s on your rig, it probably already looks like a raisin or is about to...or youre just doing it for looks in which case...aint nobody for time for posre questions.

I want to slap 37s on my truck because its: a dedicated toy, i dont care about highway speed, mileage, or reliability...just being a troll wheeling a 1st gen ifs rig with 37s.
When i wheel with guys on 40s and tons, my limiting factor is not as much the size of the tire (to a point obv), its that the axles/truck just breaks so much easier when bumping a ledge, or 4 wheel burnout sawing away at something, or when bound up in something technical. If the truck just wouldn't break, the 35s suffice pretty well for a lot of things. Buuuut it always makes it easier with more clearance. 35s to 37s, 37s to 40s e.c.t

Dual cases are in. Finally got it all together and got out again. Now to see how it all holds up with the 37”. I did lean the box sides into a tree pretty hard, and watched it deflect! No damage. I’m pretty stoked.
