I don´t think a newbie learning how to drive could burn a clutch up in only 236 miles, this is a bad call on the dealerships part.

Agreed. I had a Mazda 3 and was terrible at driving stick for the first few months. Clutch held fine up to when I sold it 4 years later.

My first vehicle was a Mazda B2300 with manual. I was 19 when I bought it at my first base. Young and wild, hadn´t had a license for very long, and was trying to impress the girls, that truck lasted me 5 years with no clutch issues. Sold it before I went to Korea for a year, man that was great truck.

Unless there is something you’re not sharing about how you’ve been driving the (i.e. riding the clutch while going up a 300km 10% grade pulling a 3000kg trailer), there is clearly a problem from the factory with your clutch. I learned how to drive manuals on a 1993 gmc 3500 gas job that hauled around 3000liters of AvGas and was definelty well over max payload ratings most of the time. I then trained countless employees to drive manual on that truck. When the engine gave out in 2009, the clutch still had pleanty of life.

Regardless of anecdotal stories, I can’t understand why Toyota won’t cover this unless the dealer did something to the vehicle before you bought it that would void the warranty. Very confusing situation.

If I were that dealer I would eat the repairs (we have in the past for a 17 Pro that was declined).

It goes a long way to help a customer in a tough situation, especially after spending that amount of cash.

Lol I have seen them smoke one in less than 50 miles. How? The "person" thought they had to push the clutch every time they pushed the brake. 50 miles on a winding mountain road. They only pushed the clutch halfway in, just like they did the brakes. Brand new car, no clutch left.
This clutch might have malfunctioned but in most cases, it's usually the driver's fault.

Surprising they won't cover it with less than 300 miles. Even being rough on it wouldn't toast it that quick.

Had a similar issue with my '06 GTO. Clutch toasted at 16k. I feared the worst considering I was 19 with a fast car and anyone would assume I just destroyed it being a young dumbass. Luckily Pontiac covered everything when they found the master cylinder wasn't working properly.

Hopefully you can get it worked out. I don't think I have to suggest this, but stick on their asses like fly on shit until they make it right.

I wonder how much today's generation of mechanics know about diagnosing and repairing manual trannies.

This exact thing happened to my 17 pro. Except I flew from LA to NY for the delivery and I drove it up to Toronto and that's where the truck broke down.

It was a huge pain in the ass, long story short, took them 4mths and like 100hrs of phone calls with Toyota Corp but they end up covering everything and even shipped the truck back to LA for me.
Just make sure you document everything and be on their ass. Once you have a case manager from toyota Corp then you could start following up with them. The dealer was 100% useless with this process. Good luck hope they will come through for you.

WOW!! I have 26k on my MT and the clutch has been perfect even with towing a fair amount.... Sounds like warranty, I mean even if you are a shitty driver, still seems tough to burn up a clutch in under 300mi.

I thought my post went through previously. I bet there are failures for manual and auto due to a huge production number. My dilemma is manual I control the truck and burn through those gears. I love that crap. Auto I can go offroading smoke a cigar and eat a hotdogs at the same time lmao. They both have perks.

I would love to know what the clutch rod free play was set to from the factory.. mine was out of whack, but in the opposite way that would cause excessive slippage.

The rod/nut have little "pen" marks on them from the factory.. part of the assembly/QA process I guess.

Yeah, something's got to be wrong with the clutch, pressure plate or something to burn a clutch up that quick.

Didn't you say pretty much the same thing about the fake paint chip guy last week?? Mods deleted the thread or I'd link, turned out the guy was completely lying and a bunch of TW members got taken for a ride.

Brand new members with no post history and stories that don't make sense, I don't believe any of them without proof anymore its almost comical how every other day we have posts like this and 99% of the time its not from anyone with reputable post history. Weird how super insane problems combined with outright evil dealerships practices don't ever seem to happen to long term members :spy:
