V2 is acting the same as the other exterior for me, .OBJ and .MTL the .JPG are all being read by windows as an empty folder with no data, cant force SolidWorks to open them either. Im only seeing a single .JPG "folder" in both of those as well, while the Full Truck has 14 proper readable .JPG images
Does it work on your end when you download it back from drive? I hate to take up more of your time if its just an issue on my end. Seems like its a drive issue from compressing for upload/download.

I do see some weird behavior with it and I can't identify what exactly is causing it. I was able to get it to work on Window's and Mac after playing with the files, but I'm not sure what exactly is going on there.
In the meantime, I have uploaded the newest model to Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6473868

You can download it there. They won't let me put the texture file with the other files to download so you can either save it from the Thingiverse Page Thumbnail image or it is here: (ensure that it is named
' textured_0_CWfce5hn.jpg ' and in the same folder as the .obj and .mtl

I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the app to scan my truck. Seeing a Tacoma in SW is too cool and now I want to see mine haha. I'll definitely throw it in here if it comes out as good as yours.
I assume good bright lighting is important?
Do you think it would be worth trying to scan smaller sections and then combine them into an assembly to increase the resolution and reduce the noise? Thinking about starting with the front and cab of the truck, and then the bed section.

Go the free route before you spend any money.

What phone do you have? Mine has a LiDar Scanner and uses that functionality.

If yours does have it, there is a free app that is just as good called Scaniverse: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/scaniverse-3d-scanner/id1541433223
but it's only with supported devices on iOS.

If your's doesn't, there are free photogrammetry tools that you can use: https://poly.cam/tools/photogrammetry
Essentially, you take a bunch of photos of the object from a bunch of angles, and it puts them together into a model. I'm happy to share all of my knowledge that I can.

Edit: to answer your other questions. Bright lighting helps. My full truck scan, I used a flashlight that I held next to my phone for the whole scan.

I think it could be worthwhile to scan different sections at higher resolution then recompositing them later if you need that level of detail.

I'd love to be able to 3D print a model of my truck to have. Far off ideas that I'll probably never get to would to make an RC version of my truck and import my truck model into a game like SpinTires where I can offroad with it whenever I want.

I've got a 14 Pro as well. Yeah I'll probably start with Scaniverse and the free version of PolyCam to see how they work.
I'll definitely come here for questions I have once I get started!
I'm going to try after work today if its still bright enough outside.

This is not as easy as it looks! Results from just an app on your phone are pretty incredible though.
Got any tips for getting the roof?

Scaniverse seems to get a little lost once i get to the opposite side I started from, and results get a lot worse.
I started this one right in the front and the detail there is great

A chair or something to stand on haha. Mine isn't lifted yet, and I can stand on my bed too.

I'm absolutely drooling over your rig though! Do you have a build thread for yours? You've done most of what I want to do to mine!

I'll have to get a step stool for my next attempt, think I'll set up a free trial on polycam to see if it can keep track of where it is a bit better too.
I've been trying to get in close to get more detail in some areas like wheel wells and the roof, but when I zoom back out Scaniverse seems to get a bit lost and lose where it was. I might be moving too quickly, I'll have to give it a few more tries.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I don't have a thread, I have been thinking about putting one together though. I've built it reaaal slow over the course of the last ~7 years and its only recently started to really come together into something that I'm actually proud of.

I downloaded and tried to open it with several programs (Microsoft 3D Builder, Blender and Meshlabs) but all I got were errors when trying to open it

Windows are definitely not good.. Not sure how it will get much better though, as I assume the issue is that because the scan uses Lidar sensors which just use reflected light, its not easy to get a good read on something transparent.

If you were to just do one area for one specific task I think it would do a really good job. Like for designing a rear bumper, I believe you can get a really good scan of just the rear section of the truck. Going bigger like the full truck definitely isn't perfect.

There must be a way you could do the truck in parts and join them together into one higher resolution model, but I don't have any experience working with these surface/mesh bodies. I only have experience with solid body models in SolidWorks and the like..

Using this thread so everything is in one place...

I just toured a local 3D print shop and they mentioned 3D scanning components for some of their customers. I asked about scanning my truck, and they showed me a very detailed chassis model they produced for someone with a Hummer H2.

I'm planning to get my truck exterior scanned and removing the bumpers so I can model some custom bumpers for myself.

I'm up to share this model when I get the scan done, but wanted to ask if anyone would like something in particular scanned. Depending on what it is, I may have to ask to chip in as it is fairly expensive and is based on the time to scan and process.

Man if it were an extended cab I'd be down. I also found this one but same deal.

Imports into blender but looks like it's been foam sprayed LOL . . . not sure how to make use of it but very close.
