I just sold my 2023 TRD OR DCAT. 7800 miles. I paid $36,700 for it in April 2023 (I bought it cash with a $4000 discount). I decided to trade it in this spring since it wasn't getting much use. Carmax offered me $40,400! Multiple dealers in the area offered to match CarMax, so away it went last night.

You can thank the overpriced and ugly 4G for driving up the value of your 3Gs.

Silly pricing models that are based on people being willing to pay stupid prices does not a 'classic' make. But I understand what you're saying.......

Glad you were able to take advantage of the craziness.

I'd also consider, $36,700 for a 2023 OR is a ridiculously low price, that most (if anyone) could really get. Good for you for shopping it, but still.

What blows my mind is, who are these CarMax and other used car customers? Why are they paying over original MSRP for a used vehicle? When you shop hard for a new vehicle with inherently low depreciation you end up on the winning side of the bargain, even trading in. You can drive virtually for free. If you buy used for the same vehicle, you lose every time.

I've driven my Tacoma for 4 years, and and 24,000 miles. And KKB says it's worth $2,000 more than I paid for it new.

this is true! It can happen with used though too. I bought a Jeep JK Rubicon used, and my buddy (that's the financial guy) thought I was nuts, that I paid WAY TOO MUCH. I drove it for almost 4 years and traded it on for just under $1k less than I paid for it. Oh, and I got the next under book, so I didn't overpay on it,, I know sometimes that is their (the dealers) game too.

No, that was just the truck. Original MSRP was $40,700. Tax and registration vary by zip code and aren't negotiable.

Certain combinations of options were available in a 3rd Generation, but are not available in a 4th. For example, a manual transmission Access Cab in Army Green. People wanting such a truck are willing to bid up the price of a used one.

Sure as hell matters! Go get some Farmer John, lol.

I don’t mind helping sustain farms with quality stuff.

And don’t snap fool with the seizure cap, as I was just told that a family member on my better half’s side who is autistic and ADHD is running out of his meds for the latter. The US has a shortage or something to that effect. They called a pharmacy…they were told they cannot order what they have until they are down to 5 doses AND that it will be at the cost of $600. That’s fucking criminal.

Be cool with your caps, member not too long ago you was apologizing

I'm not sure what the point is, but tax is 8.97%. However, I traded a Forester in at the same time (also for close to what I had paid for it 3 years earlier). So I only paid a small amount of tax on the difference. Registration is annual, so I pay that whether I'm buying a new car every year or renewing an old car. The price of the trade and the price of the Tacoma were separately negotiated.
