Cool. I'd love to see it done. LSX, SAS the front, DANA 60s should do the trick.

Ha ha. I had a couple old Chevy trucks like that. I made one truck out of two once. One had a good engine with a rotted out body. The other, good body, blown engine. Reminded me of the classic tune "fifteen days under the hood"

If you do go with this I would vote LS swap also. I would also try to find someone to hack the Tacoma's CAN network to see if its possible to get the LS ecu to communicate with the Toyota CAN system.

I LS swapped my 1999 Jaguar XJ8 with a kit from a company that specializes GM swapping Jags... the mechanical part of the swap was easy, and the parts they supplied probably only cost about $250 to produce. 75% of the cost of the kit was presumably to cover the R&D cost they paid to hack the CAN system. The company provides a module that is normally used in aftermarket remote start installs and other aftermarket CAN communication modifications that is loaded with their software specific to the swap. As far as the Jaguar knows its still running the Jag engine and trans.... the module is just translating the GM ecu information into language the Jaguar's CAN network understands... and everything still works; HVAC, ABS/Trac, gauges, check engine light, OBD2 information... you can even wire it up so that all EVAP and emissions systems work and still trigger the CEL.... the swap is even CARB approved.

If you can find someone to hack the CAN system and translate the GM information into Toyota's language then its possible you could still get almost everything to work.... but that doesnt seem like it would be an easy thing to do.

Your other option is run a stand alone ECU and gauge set, but then any function that requires information from the Tacoma's ECU might not work properly.

Any V8 swap starts with a Holley Dominator or Terminator ECU's makes it so much easier to wire

Also Holley's Digital dash makes it easy

I thought a 1st gen regular cab with a 3.5EB would be really cool.

I did a 6.2 LS swap in my 97 Rover discovery. Just throwing it out there as the project has stretched out over 4 years now. I’m at about $15k right now. Just food for thought as the extra power and weirdness gets pricey.

Even if you could get a large V8 in there, you'll tear the hell out of transmission, transfer case, and differentials. Can you wiggle a beefier tranny behind the V8?
