Yes. It's a pile. The bar adjustment pin disappeared, the nut that secures the bar loosens constantly. And if you tighten it, it welds itself to the threaded stud. Today, I look down and the bolts that hold the cowl on have disappeared. These are semi-captive mind you. The constant chain-sharpening is me. Even though I'm careful about running it into the dirt and all. And I'm too much of a moron to use a moron-proof file. I look at Chris' Echo and unless he's hiding his struggles, that thing fires up and cuts every time.

Learned of a 2 stroke hack for seasonal/long term storage --- Drain out fuel, run machine until it burns off the fuel. Pour in 2 stroke oil ONLY into the fuel tank, then with the saw off, pull the cord a few short strokes, basically pumping the oil into the fuel filter, fuel line and most importantly, the carburetor!! When it comes out of storage, dump fuel tank...refill with your mixed fuel m

    Running/starting isn't the problem.

I've also got that echo CS-590 and it's been reliable, even when I didn't use/know of the just mentioned 2 stroke oil storage hack...

That said, the M18 chainsaw is stupid easy to operate, but then again it does have a chain adjustment screw, 2 bolts to hold the bar...but no carb, no mixing fuel and has worked great for both my dad and my purposes (we each have one).

Let me know the model, as I inherited a buddy's and it's literally sat w/o bar and chain for nearly 4 years now!!!! Haven't pulled it out once.

I’ve had that echo for about 8 years and haven’t had much of an issue. It runs a little rough here and there but I’ve never cleaned it or changed the spark plug. I’m going to try Greg’s trick and see if it helps.

Just use the manufactured fuel. Expensive, but I will say that the chainsaw has never failed to start reliably. (except where the idiot owner doesn't know what he's doing)

Echo, is a damn good saw. I like’em.
Sometimes I wish the M18 had a clutch in it. I’ve thrown the chain a time or two.

    Well then....

I'm willing to admit my issues are user-error, but I really don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I got one of their electric pressure washers and it’s been great, hopefully the chainsaw will perform at the same level, only time will tell.

I looked that one up. There's two studs for the bar. Leaps and bounds better than mine.

All this saw talk.. I need to do a serious external cleaning on my 271.

Will admit though.. having both gasser and a battery powered have their advantages.

Haha, same. I drank milk instead of water as a kid when I came in from playing outside. Fortunately I'm not lactose intolerant now.
He has a locker so he should be fine.
