    Hiking at Klingman's Dome (Smokey's) about 1982......83 maybe.... walked up on 2 cubs. Then momma. Chased usdown hill for10 minutes or so...might have been 30 seconds. Seemed like 10 minutes.

    The old joke comes to mind. I dont have to be able to outrun the bear. I just have to be able to outrun you...

    Don't keep food in your tent. Don't keep it INSIDE your truck, unless your insurance covers vandalism by nature.
    Best option is some sort of plastic tote, in the truck bed. Or sitting it up over a tree.
    Don't go piss 5 miles away from camp, alone, in the middle of the night.
    Etc...
