I sealed with clear silicon yesterday. Considered doing the shark fin, as well.
I’ll see how the next rain does before that.

Does the recess for the third brake light lead up into the roof? Like would water ba able to get into the headliner?

I'm actually dealing with a leaking 3rd brake light right now. There was indeed a TSB about this... I think mine had been taken care of prior to me purchasing it, but my third brake light has a crack in it. I have taken photos for your comparison and will be installing this over the weekend. There are at least three part number for this part for the double cab. See below.

Maybe because the double cab can hold more water than the access cab...

Just a quick follow up... Install of the third brake light was relatively easy. I only pulled down part of the headliner as I was not doing anything which required the whole thing come down. (Trim removal tools are cheap and help immensely) That said I did manage to drop my deep well socket into the roof space and so I remembered @MESO mention that the third brake light could technically be removed from the outside. That is the case here as it was already cracked, but installation of the replacement third brake, unless Meso made, will require the headliner be dropped. Doing so allowed me to retrieve my socket and finish the job.

Also, a huge thanks to @Silentwolf for the mention of Folex as I had never heard of this stuff, but boy does it work great. Photos below...

Does anyone know the torque for the two nuts when re-installing the replacement light? The dealer I purchased my light from said I needed the 04051 replacement light. I will be doing this swap out maybe Monday depending on the weather, thanks in advance for the help.

By the way, 31 is in inch pounds, not foot pounds.
If doing foot pounds then 2.6 is what you're going for.

Do you think this issue has been resolved on new 2020s or should I head out and put silicone around housing too? It's going to see a lot of rain/snow up here.

Yep, my 2017 never had any water leaks but after reading all the horror stories on here. I didn't want to mess with the dealer games and having my truck sit for weeks/months for repair. So I took some silicone caulk and put a bead around the light. Problem solved. Can't even notice it.

Guess how I found out mine is leaking? WTF Toyota.

Ordering a new gasket. Don't really want to to use caulk, but I will if it comes down to it.

I'm pretty sure when they installed that ring around the light as part of the tsb it was just silicone. I'd rather have caulk than water intrusion/mold/mildew smell to deal with
