3rd Brake Light Tap for Toppers/Canopies?

Hey y'all

Pops is taking delivery of the 4th gen tacoma next week. He wants a topper right away.

Historically LED taillights have always been issue with not getting consistent voltage through the lights themselves. I know in some other vehicle you'd need to tap into the BCM or another avenues to get the proper voltage for a secondary brake light.

Has anyone got this sorted out yet?

 

I can't speak for 4G, but on 3G there is a member on here that makes T wire harnesses that go behind the rear tail light. All plug and play, no cutting or splicing of wires were required. Maybe 4G is the same?

Yes, I am aware of that. 3G is pretty straight forward - I've done a few of them myself.

3G Tundra doesn't work straight from the LED taillights. Just curious, on this new gen Tacoma would be the same.

The dealer for ARE installed mine and connected the 3rd brake light to the rear brake light.
