No problem with mine. Try shifting at different (higher) rpm. Welcome to TW!

No problems here. It’s synchronized so it shouldn’t be grinding unless your not using the clutch or something like that.

Girlfriend and I both have 2018 dcsb offroad. My truck never had the grinding in 3rd, but with her truck has happened several times with either of us driving and only in 3rd gear. Maybe once every 500 miles as it usually shifts fine. At first I thought it was user error but now I believe something is wrong with synchro. Dealer is 2 hours away so not wanting to take it there so they can tell us they could not replicate the problem.

Sounds like 3rd gear synchronizer may be chipped, you haven't been speed shifting have you?

Just don't be a douche about it and if one dealer doesn't claim it move on to another. Pissing on the tree doesn't help and you'll get better service with a good attitude.

It's likely they will blame your driving/shifting.

No I haven't, neither abuse of the truck. And it's every single time I shift to 3rd that grinds.

FWIW, my '16 did this for a while and eventually went away (more of a chunk when engaging 3rd). I don't know exactly how many miles it took, but I can tell you it's butter now and I haven't noticed any ill effects (~33,000 km on the odo today).

All I can say is don't force the shift, just let it "fall in" with light pressure.

Yep, it sounds like a broken sychronizer ring. You might also check your transmission fluid level but I doubt that's the problem. You can double clutch sometimes to keep it from scraping until you find out what the problem is. I asked about the speed shifting because I have missed a lot of gears in my life and most of the time I ruined a syncro.

Sorry you’re having 3rd gear shifting problems..but are you

“Granny shifting not double clutching like you should?”

    Sorry...I saw the opportunity

On the real, have your dealer verify, and check your trans fluid level.

That.^^^. honey get the fly... or sumptin like that. Vinegar not so much.

If it did it from the get-go should have taken it in to document moving forward so track record.

IF they blame you, ask them was there ZERO miles on my truck when I drove it off the lot? Food for thought.

Don't let em blame the suspension either. Dealers lift these trucks all the time b-4 sale with shit lifts too.

That all said, have you tried a carrier bearing spacer add-on. I had a slight grinding sound (likely from the u-joint) and a carrier bearing spacer tco'd my only problem after lifting.

Tranny smooth as silk. SPECIALLY 3rd gear. Sounds like a synchro problem. How's the clutch feel - is it soft easy no squeaks?

Clutch feels just right, and I've been trying holding the clutch for a wile and shift to 3rd slowly, that will work but it takes for ever and that's not how it should be! Truck came with like 50 miles on it!

Mine needed to be kind of eased into 3rd for the first couple hundred miles to prevent a slight grind, at 1400 miles it shifts very nicely. Like butter as they say. No issues. If you're getting grinding at 3500 miles I think something is wrong. I wonder if in the 50 miles put on it before you got it if somebody tried to speed shift it and damaged a synchro. Good luck getting it resolved.
