    Check build thread!
I love the 2.7 trucks. I would've bought one if I didn't already max out the V6 on towing lol. My friend has a 2012 SR ACLB with a 5 spd/2.7 Combo and it's an amazing little truck.

Yeah you need the V6 for that heavy towing for sure.
One think I don’t talk much about is I love the sound of the 2.7L engine and it’s exhaust system. When I punch it it’s a deep sounding, smooth running machine.

i was rear ended in my 2020 SR, 4x2 access cab. after a month of them trying to repair it with no frames available i was able to get them to total it. I paid 25k for the truck and we settled for 38k. I was pleasantly surprised. now i can afford 4 wheel drive!

I searched for two years to find the exact one I wanted. White 2017 2.7L 4x4 5speed. Mine purrs like a kitten. To me it feels and sounds the way a Toyota truck should feel and sound if you’ve ever driven the older models. It’s all about the nostalgia for me.

My previous 2.7 Tacoma got the job done. It was smooth and steady.

If they still offered the reg cab with the 2.7 I may have gone that way again. I really liked my 2nd gen.

Fox 2.0 coilers, Fox 2.0 rear shocks, 17" 4Runner Trail Edition 7 spoke rims, 255/75 17 Yokohama All Terrains. Secondary air filter removed and AFE pro Dry S installed. Lower Air valance removed. Secondary smog pump mod done. Cali Raised ditch lights and amber fog lights installed with On off switches installed in 2 of 3 factory blank slots!
I literally bought the last 2.7 access cab 5spd manual 4x4 Toyota ever made several years back. I drove 1,000 miles to get it. There was only 2 within a 1,000 mile radius of my zip code. I put fox 2.0 coilovers on it, trail edition rims with 255/80 R17 yokohama's and tinted the windows. It was sloooooooooooow. But it rode so damn smooth. It was a great old school feel. Had to have ankle surgery and couldn't shift so I sold it to a kid from Maine (I live in AZ). Absolutely miss that truck!

I deliberately sought out a 2.7/5MT 4x4 knowing that the Japanese engine and transmission combo would last me until retirement and beyond. I wanted as much of a nostalgic ride as I could get and bought the Utility model. If I could have gotten it with manual crank windows and a rubber floor mat I would have. I love my truck.

I have seen the differences that the TSBs and the tunes make. It is absolutely wrong that the 2.7l ATs do not get attention from corporate.

Nice wheels, what did you use to black out the steelies?
I bought my truck as my retirement truck as well, to last me a lifetime. Test drove a DCSB V6, wasn’t too impressed with the room in the back seat or the short bed and went with the Access cab Utility package and long bed which fit my needs. Have a friend who had the 2.7 and loved it so I test drove it and said yep, this one!

I painted mine with midnight black Rustoleum metallic, clear coated them, and added emblems from ebay. They look gunmetal in the sun and black in the shade.

Awesome job! I was thinking mine would look good in gunmetal with my metallic silver sky.

Thanks. I took my time with it to make sure it was masked properly and sanded every nook and cranny. Think I sprayed 2 color coats and 3 clear coats. All Rustoleum spray cans.

Waited 3 months for my just above base perfectly optioned sr 2.7 4x4 and it came in 5 days before moving 2000 miles away. Averaged 29.1 mpg from Oregon through Wyoming and then 28 when I hit the more humid states. No reason for a v6 for me. Sure I was putting along bedding the engine.. Plus the 2.7 is Japanese built cast iron bulletproof million mile block. My resale value in 15-20 years will be insane. Many options from earlier 3rd gen models came standard and the frame is full of wax. No complaints here.

I will say, there was a time when all Toyota trucks were slow as shit but utterly reliable. I think it's funny when people complain about the speed of Toyota trucks - to me, the sluggishness of the motor is a Toyota tradition haha. I used to joke that my 3G 4Runner motor's gas pedal was just a noise button

My 2.7 Taco is ten years old and never let me down! Towed my 2000 lb boat among lots of other stuff all over the place. No issues! Big fan of the 2.7 and Japanese 4 cyl. engines in general. Sadly 4cyl Tacomas are no longer sold in Canada so I guess it will be my last one unless there is a hybrid version.
