3rd Gen 2016+ Tacoma Tailgate Lock

I have a 2021 and didn't have any problems at all. Great product, and customer service! Also ended up going with the OEM tailgate lock kit, since it was plug and play and I wanted oem quality.

 

Just placed my order for a black one. Honestly was a little hesitant at first, but then I saw they can easily punch out the lock cylinder, and a new tailgate is $3500, I hit the checkout button immediately.
Looking forward to installing it.

Would anyone happen to know if this fits with a mountain hatch. I would assume it would but just asking to confirm.

 

I would think so, but I'm not sure of the tolerances with the mountain hatch. If the MH fits in the same spot as the stock cover you shouldn't have any problems.

If it is the same as https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-2016-tacoma-tailgate-lock.513023/page-2#post-16695828 then it was confirmed to fit. If the panel does not curve over the corner it should fit, the notch in the lock body was to account for the tailgate skin overhang.

Going back through the thread, I wanted to add a comment on here, since there was room to add a little more clearance for the area that rubbed I added another .030 clearance quite some time ago to be sure. Just wanted to let you all know I do address your feedback.

I just realized it’s shipped out of Torrance. I live in Gardena... I could of just picked it up?

 

Lock ordered, finding a product both aesthetic & functional is always a bonus!

 

Ordered my Sabellco lock and it is supposed to be delivered this Friday. I will install on Saturday. Pretty stoked. I think my tailgate lock was already messed with because the key portion is cockeyed (not fully punched). The weird thing it is never locked so not sure why someone would do that.

I am debating if I want to install the auto lock. I want to because it’s cool and convenient but I don’t want to encourage thieves to punch my lock only to find they can’t steal it due to the Sabellco lock.

Anyone had to buy the lock portion from a dealer? If so how much was it?

 

If referring to the OEM pop and lock, I like it. Saves me a little time and I think it's convenient. My .02 cents.

 

Installing on my 2021 OR TRD next week. I will report back with any issues.

 

I was referring to the actual barrel lock on the tailgate lift handle that the key goes in to lock the tailgate. The one the thieves punch out to steal the tailgate. Mine got damaged somehow and I need to replace it.



Unless you meant the auto lock...then I am referring to the one that can lock/unlock the tailgate automatically with the key-fob. The OEM one from the Toyota.

 

Looks like something is jammed in there like wood. If I can find the email trail I think the person they punched the lock on told me
