Does anyone else feel like their automatic transmission (V-6) causes a "jumpy" braking style when coming to a complete stop? I feel like the tranny is too busy whipping down thru 2nd and 1st. I've tried cruising up to a stop sign and throwing it into neutral and it's a regular smooth stop. I'm surprised that the transmission can't sense a complete stop and just default to 1st more smoothly.

Well, don't get me wrong, I love this truck and it's possible the computer is still learning my habits. I also don't mind all the shifting that much as I know it's creating better fuel economy. Everytime I would like to pass someone I am definitely not disappointed with the horsepower!

You aren't hitting the gas while hitting the brake are you?

I'm definitely not hitting the gas Woodrow. I probably shouldn't have used the term "lurch forward", when I slow to a complete stop (ie; stop sign) I feel the truck down shifting which makes the braking a jerky feeling, like a compression grab in the rear wheels that is similar to letting the clutch out too quickly on a manual transmission. I can get used to it as long as it's not stressing and harming the drive train.

I complained about this in a thread a few months back. It has since calmed down a lot. Was very jumpy in the parking lot and I was afraid of what my wife might do when she drove it. Have never experienced that with a car before. Im probably low on tranny fluid. was going to take it in the night before the blizzard but have not had a chance. I have an appointment scheduled with R&H next week for the "It shifts funny and I think they probably didn't fill it". Will report on what the find. The MPGs have been steadily improving. I've been seeing 20-22 on a stock offroad driving a lot of stop/go traffic including some steep hills.

I have this same issue if I'm stopping slightly quickly. It doesn't seem to do it if I'm braking very gently to a stop.

Not sure if a jacked up/underfilled tranny would be giving increasingly better mileage. I'm still taking mine in for a level check next week and will pay shop labor if I have to in the event they fight with it being covered or not under Toyota care this early into the truck's life.

I also have this problem and have since day one. Pretty scary if you are not expecting it. I have the towing package and I checked my fluid and it was a tick under 1 and 1/2 qts low of atf. Since I topped the trans off the sudden unexpected jerkiness has really diminished.

My transmission fluid was supposedly topped off at the dealer, did not change this behavior. The only time it bothers me is when I'm in parking lots pulling into spots, the sometimes it wants to surge even when backing in or pulling into a spot. I don't think it has anything to do with the transmission for my truck. Seems at its worst when engine has not completely warmed up.

Ive noticed it happens more-so when turning. The p/s pressure switch kicks up idle to boost pressure, I think it just kicks it up too much.
