Glad to see that rubber mat is still around since that looks to be exactly the roll i used.
But yeah a 3/8ths punch would be ideal and the use of a round file is a pretty good idea but as you mentioned, its best to punch holes ln the go since there might be slight variations on locations

And you're at the two year mark using that material? That's reassuring! I noticed on my first wheeling trip this weekend with them in that they actually seem to repel dust/dirt a bit. Everything else in the wheel well was dirty but the splash guards.

 

Thats because theyre new
Once the oily surface collects enough dust itll look like mine doesnt see to harm the material if the surface is dry or not.

 

This is awesome that you guys did this! I'm curious is anyone knows if this template works on a 4th gen 4Runner (2003-2009)?

Thanks everyone! Saw the link on Shveet's post and had some old pond liner laying around so I made a set this afternoon.

 

Just finished up my set (finally)

Just a tip for the pin holes
Use a 7mm socket with an extension and a hammer.
Doesn’t take much effort, no special tools and nice round holes

Been wanting to do this for a while on my taco. I had a factory splash guard rip and it finally gave me the motivation to say… screw it and get it done. I used the .DXF file and auto cad to make a bunch of 8.5” x 11” (typical sheet of paper) rectangles so that it could be printed off easily for a template.
You can download them as PDFs here… there are 10 sheets total. They are in Black and white, so keep in mind what holes and cuts you want to make for your generation. I recommend taping all the sheet’s together and then taking a colored marker and copying the red and blue in the original template. I ended up not using the holes and just punched them out as I went through putting up the rubber. Hope this helps.

 

Before, During and After. Much better! The factory ones are crap! I got all of my supplies at under $40. I got the 2mm rubber at Home Depot on a roll. 27”x 56” left me plenty of room to fit the pair. And the plastic tabs at Harbor freight worked awesome to fit the original holes, plus I added a few of my own using a drill. I can’t wait to see how well these keep the mud out.

People will still need to print to "actual size" or the template could be slightly off scale.

 

Let us know how those templates work. They should fit nicely if you tape them square at the corners.

The guards have been awesome on our melty Montanan roads lately. Everything is brown with mud but not my engine bay.
