Heres a Miata, with a tiny lightweight motor, with no big gear reduction, no big tires, on a flat road.
    https://youtu.be/zL4QaTOG7zQ
Engine mounts are probably the same rubber type, same style mount for the most part, and the drivetrain weighs probably half as much.

Now add big tires, gear reduction, axle wrap, non paved road, etc.

I think most guys with autos trans/auto tcase don't have any idea on how much their motor moves since its out of sight, out of mind. When I put my dual cases in (shifter in the cab now) I was pretty baffled by how much the drivetrain flopped around for such a new truck, instead of some old shitter with clapped out mounts.

Got a video of your truck? This one shows pretty standard movement. I wheel with guys on 40s, with full drive train swaps, 100:1 ratios with 500+hp and there shit isnt moving. My jeep is on 40s with 100:1 and the trans isnt flopping around like described in this thread.

At this point I really jsut want to see it.

So they have full drivetrain swaps and they still running stock toyota mounts? (Which is what this thread is about, and what you're making it sound like they are using)
Myself and the rest of the pnw guys have all had/have full builds, and all of us are solid mounted/poly mounted since thats what you do when you build a rig out, swap motors, big hp, low gears, etc, as any stock mount doesnt last.
Your jeep is on jackstands as it looks like from your last post, and it quite literally has poly mounts for the trans just like every build doing that setup, and poly motor mounts.
My shifter literally broke off since it had 6" of travel (so like 2" at the tcase), swapped polys in when I finally got them so no videos of stock while crawling. Now the shifter moves maybe 2", so around 3/4" drivetrain movement.

All different, Tahos, Suburban, Jeeps, Toyotas with dual cases, etc

I only have poly mounts because I need a 1" motor mount lift to allow room for the drivetrain to run dual-tri rear.

'If I didnt need the lift I would have kept them stock.

I totally believe you, I just want to see it.

When two builders/crawlers you respect, talk/debate about the validity of a mod, it's a truly beutiful thing...

Carry on gentlemen (not that you need my permission), this truck idiot appreciates the discourse and insight.

Totally, all part of a good time! I just come from ripping stock mounts in half with 22rs (probably 40hp) and 35s, turbo'd 2rz'z with 42s, etc.
Double the motor size and drivetrain weight, with triple the power and from personal experience the stocks didnt cut it once I did dual cases/spent a handful of days at the dunes.

The mounts obviously have their niche which is filled/enough demand obviously, so it comes to personal preference and experience/if you have issues with the stocks.

Here's a different perspective. Aside from wallet damage, is there any potential harm in replacing the mounts? Added stress on the frame? Forces directed farther down the drivetrain to weaker components?

Is this a good CYA mod?

I agree with some points above... I don't necessarily see this adding "performance" feels to the butt dino, as once the rubber absorbs the initial strain, you have nearly 100% of the drive force being transfered. It's more about the micro seconds until the rubber is flexed out.

More energy is transferred to the frame but not sure what potential impacts from that really are given the frame isnt boxed. I personally prefer rubbing bushings over poly simply because of energy transfer but a lot of people dont like the maintenance of them and prefer the longevity of poly.

That’s a semi common thing on the YJ and TJ motors, but usually due to neglect, not necessarily abuse although that will do it too. Wrecks or not keeping the bolts tight definitely is the main cause there. It’s overkill but I got some upgraded aftermarket mounts that grab 8 holes instead of the stock 3.

I totally agree here though, in the Tacoma this is really just a problem that doesn’t exist except way outside the design philosophy of the truck and its intended purpose. My main issue with mounts like these is the notion of ditching a large chunk of soft, vibe soaking rubber to utilize some thin little poly bushings instead. It will rattle like a massage chair, but no one who buys them will really mention that until it’s years down the road and they finally get tired of the vibrations.

So what is the consensus on these? I have a MT so I'm wondering if they are worth it

From my understanding, if you are not planning to drive 70 on uneven dirt roads then you don’t need them.:)

MT owner here, and I’m adding them to the list of mods I’d like to do eventually. I think they would really help with the shifter feel.

I can feel the shifter/trans move when driving. I feel like having less slop in the mounts will tighten up the feel of going into gear. I understand it won’t be a Honda shifter, but I still see an opportunity for improvement.

When I’m bombing down FSRs, I can definitely feel that it takes a bit more effort to put the shifter in gear. Especially when I’m in 4low.

Even daily driving it, going though uneven parking lots/roads/etc, when in gear and my hand is resting on the shifter I can feel it move forward/back/side to side.

Hmm, city driving I haven’t noticed anything unusual. I actually really like how it shifts, running MT90 if that matters.
