I would have taken a MT TRDOR if our dealer was bringing them in with decent packages. Just because I always feel slightly more in control, too many years on bikes and MT jeeps and Brit sports cars and machinery. I tend to drive the Gen3 in sport mode making my own gear choices.

I've been getting used to my 2017 TRD, Sport with the A/T since I got my truck in April this year. I'm out to 2700 miles on the truck thus far. I know that's not a lot of miles yet, and I've driven many vehicles in my years and find the A/T takes a little getting used to. It does shift a lot, and I think it shifts smoothly. I'm getting used to how the truck drives and don't have the usual complaints that many Taco owners gripe about. I'd but this again based on my experience so far. I like manual transmissions when they are the best fit for things like Semi's and Dump trucks with split-shift axles and the likes, but for my daily driving and vacationing I'm definitely about the ease and pleasure of my Automatic Tacoma!

I bought a 1986 S10 when I was younger. I was a Manual tranny in it. I drove it for 92000 miles. I said never again. My 2017 Tacoma is an Auto.

Funny how people mention traffic and clutches being a pain, everytime i hit traffic i dont use brakes constantly, I just leave plenty of space and engage 1st when needed for stop and go traffic. No need to act like the autos and stay as close as possible. Yes brakes are easier to hold, and sure people sneak in my lane constantly; but i still get there about the same time as i would stopping and going.

As far as hills go this truck has hill assist and holds your brakes while you get it into gear and moving.

Im happy with my M/T and i loved my 2nd gen A/T. I just prefer choosing my gears it just feels more connected with the road; while others prefer less work, comfort, and MPG. Either way they are both great trucks and if I owned the A/T I would be happy as well.
Anyways no one should regret their purchase, just be grateful for what you got and don't let threads like this make you over think it. Enjoy your trucks people, there im done.

Purchased my 6spd MT TRD 4dr Sport a little over a year ago but I live in a place with open roads and little to no traffic jams. If I lived in a city it'd be AT hands down. For a truck the gearbox is smooth, shifts fine, clutch isn't fancy but seriously it's a truck. My expectations on how my 6spd Tacoma should preform have been met.

I've been happy overall with my choice of A/T. It does fine 95% of the time, and only 5% of the time am I yelling "what the hell are you doing!"

That's been the case with pretty much every automatic I've encountered though.

The Maui dealership seems to only order MT Tacomas in access cab 4cyl SR configuration. I don't know if that's the market demand, or whether other dealerships order similar. Special orders are not encouraged.
