Long bed was more important to me than the manual transmission. If it was an option with the DCORLB than I would have taken it.

Nope. I wanted an ACC, so no choice. My first AT in a truck and seems fine with ECT.

shakerhood - how is the brake booster different between the Off Road and the Sport? I must have overlooked this difference when I was cross-shopping the two. Thanks in advance!

P.S. I have the Sport with MT, and I have the hill assist. Never had hill assist before. First time it grabbed I was all "What just happened?" Haha

Totally different brake booster, the OR and Pro have ATrac or Crawl Control which is controlled by the booster, Sport, SR, SR5, Limited have traditional style vacuum booster.

Well I think you have a legitimate reason to like the AT!

My best friend and I both have base model 2017 Tacoma Double Cab OR. His is a manual and mine is an automatic, we have both driven BOTH trucks. From a daily usability perspective the auto is a breeze, but his manual seems to eek out a couple extra MPG's. For offroad needs I used MTS on Rock and Dirt with lockers and 4Low on the auto and LOVED the capability and spent most of my time trying to figure out how to look over our big ass hoods to see the next obstacle. I know the manual has more technical control, but requires more patience.

The manual is cool, sure, I had a Jeep LJ Rubi with a 6spd and offroad that was a beast, unstoppable, however being able to double foot over obstacles and focus purely on your line is a VERY NICE feature to have especially when the wife and dogs are along and you want to enjoy the journey.

I don't regret it for a single second, don't let the internet get to you.

I believe the Off Road comes with a different brake booster (at least for the 4x4, OR AT option) due the fact that CRAWL control feature is commanded by the break system and booster. I understand that CRAWL control doesn't come with the OR package for MTs.

And for the hill assist, like you, same happen to me first time that let the truck a little bit loose in neutral at my driveway... and it came the system activation and I was wondering what was that? and then realized of this feature... quite a scare thing as was thinking that something broke.

The OR and Pro Manual comes with ATrac in place of Crawl Control

"Oh hell no" I live in LA I gave up my 1989 Toyota pickup because it was stick and went to other cars that were automatic. Finally came back to the 2016 Tacoma with automatic. While I hate what Toyota did with the 2016 driveline I cant control that. But with Toyota updates and recently adding Shift Sense Pro My frustration with the transmission is mostly over with. Can't fix the engine though.

Go back to stick never. That's like going back to eating soup with your bare hands just because that's the way we use to do it.

Does anybody have experience from 2nd gen to 3rd gen, in the same configuration? I love my 2014 TRD OR crew with AT, but I always wonder if I'd hate the 3rd gen in the same setup.

I test drove the automatic and hated it, so I got the manual and for me it felt like it had a bit more pep to it.

I like it so far, I took it Off-roading up some knarly rock climbs and it did amazing.

Does the OR brake make an audible noise when pressed with the truck off?

Mine would always squeak like a mouse, is that what you are referring to? I was told that is normal at the dealership, others here have stated the same.
