I’ve got a head unit, from a parts yard, and have a harness on order. I’ll share the outcome

Promised to report out from my efforts.

    First effort was a bust.

Custom harness from autoharnesshouse.com appears to have connected the way it should. Looks like it can only connect to existing harness.

But the new unit, salvaged from 2021 Tacoma, from Benzeen Auto Parts, in Rancho Cordova CA, which appears new, would not power up. Picts below. Anything from the groups collective experience would be helpful/appreciated. btw found them by way of car-parts.com

Updating a couple of hours later - got email back from Brian at autoharnesshouse.com with the solution. Moved the 28pin connector to other side next to black connector. Works great. Many thanks to Brian at AHH, and to others with comments and suggestions. And to IMXPLNR who posted the original solution - scroll up!

hi @Rixhawz - sorry to hear about your trouble. I just did a very similar upgrade, but mine was a JBL version, where I had to replace the HU and AMP (in the back attached to the subwoofer). I got a harness from autoharnesshouse.com plugged it all in and it's been working great for several weeks now.

The first thing I'd want to know is if that radio you purchased is good or not. Easiest way would be to plug it into a 2020+ taco and see if it boots up (might be a big ask of a friend). If it fails, then take it back to Benzeen. If it's good, then you need some support from Brian at autoharnesshouse.com.

There maybe a way to bench test the new HU by providing power to it from a power supply... maybe Brian could help with that?

Hope you can figure it out, I sure love having CarPlay in my 2019 taco.

    Scott,
Thanks for the info and thoughts. I dropped a note to Benzeen asking them to confirm the HU had come out of a 2021, and asking if they had tested it in some way prior to shipping. Waiting to hear back from them.

Also hoping the folks at AutoHarnessHouse have some tips/thoughts on testing.

    Cudgel,

The 2020 and 2021 units from Tundras are a fit for the dash. There is an active thread of folks who have replaced their 2019 HU with a newer years unit. I just did mine. Found the HU on car-parts.com, and had autoharnesshouse.com make an adapting harness. Just got done with the install, worked like a champ. Hope this helps. Rick

Has anyone done this swap on a 2017? I think it’s entune 2.0 so hopefully work like Op’s 2019?

@bfgibson - should work, but you could message Brian at autoharnesshouse.com and confirm.

I’ve been very happy with the cable they made for me.

This forum was the solution I needed…I’m doing my transplant HU from a 2021 Sport to a 2019 Sport. I found the HU on Craigslist for $500. I already spoke to Brian at autoharnesshouse.com….totally knowledgeable. He knows this transplant very well. Once I am done I’ll send pictures and an update.

@NARD71 - good luck with everything!

I’ve had mine installed for 3 or 4 months now, works perfectly/very happy with it.

I have a 2016 and wondered if it would fit my truck, and roughly the cost to replace mine.
