Pardon me but I’m still a noob to Tacomas and this forum. I have a 2017 SR5.

It is my understanding that a non-JBL HU from a 2020-2022 Tacoma or Tundra will fit in my truck without modifications. All I would need is a custom harness and all factory functions (steering wheel, backup camera, Bluetooth, etc.) will still work and I will have Apple CarPlay. Do you know if this is correct?

Appreciate any help you guys can give.

You guys seem to have worked through much of the troubleshooting here. I'm looking for the OEM wireless carplay option to purchase for my 2019 OR, but haven't found any info on part numbers or which unit for the base vs JBL. I called local service/parts departments and they didn't have more info.
Any insight on which comes standard as wireless carplay?

Up to this point in time Toyota has never offered wireless CarPlay as an option. If you want wireless, you either have to buy an aftermarket head unit(which presents its own set of problems) with it built in, or use an OEM 2020-2023 head unit and make it wireless with a dongle such as Carlinkit, which I use and works well.

Keeping it simple and OEM, Tailgate Letters, Bed Lights, Power Tailgate Lock, Exhaust Tip, Peragon Bed Cover, Ham Radio Install.
... in a Tacoma, my wifes 2020 Prius had wireless carplay. Sad that they never pushed it out to other vehicles.

Does anyone know the difference between the part number 86140-04230 and part number 86140-04210. I recently purchase a headunit with the part number 86140-04230 and i'm wondering if this one has the navigation installed or it does not have it installed.

Edit: It appears that the 04210 is the JBL model but I don't know if the 04230 model comes with factory navigation or not.

@Bigmatt503 It looks like I might have just missed out on your head unit sale. Dang.

I'm interested if anybody else has a newer head unit for sale.
This is a good thread, and it answered a lot of my questions about what to do and how to do it.

@Bigmatt503 Are you selling a wiring harness for it, as well?

I've read this thread through, but have a couple of questions.

I've been spoiled because I drove my wife's new 2020 RAV4 XLE with Apple Car Play and Android. She has an iPhone and it's a neat set up.

I have a 2019 SR5 with the base level stereo. It's nice, but I'd like to try the Android auto app. I've looked at aftermarket units, but it looks like most of them don't have the ability to duplicate the truck settings, which I want to do.

So, the question is what OEM radio options will work with my SR5? I know I'll need an adapter harness, which shouldn't be a problem from what I've read. I want to retain the OEM microphone, back up camera display, settings, etc.

BTW, it was a lot simpler when Toyota build essentially one harness for all vehicles with the same connectors across all models, but those days are gone.

I don't know how much the person you were quoting and replying to paid, but here are my costs:

    - I paid about $500 for the head unit (purchased on eBay), and then another $150 or so for the wire harness (purchased from AutoHarnessHouse).

This has been mostly successful for me. I occasionally (like once or twice a month) have the head unit power off and then power back on while I'm driving, but it's not awful. Even with this unwelcome issue, it's still better than not having Carplay functionality.

With CarPlay do you lose all of the maintenance reminders, setting abilities and the vehicle navigation?

I know phone map apps work anywhere but the vehicle nav has been flawless where there’s zero cell signal for a long way.

Would also be interested in a newer OEM Head Unit and harness if anyone is selling! My 2019 SR doesn’t have CarPlay and I don’t mind the phone mount, just would like to clean up the look and have everything in one place.

Does anyone have install instructions? Or made even a video? Doesn’t sound too hard but it’d be nice to get an idea of it beforehand.
