I got this in my truck today. I had no idea what I was looking at, so I just plugged in what fit. Took me a minute to figure out the backup camera, which is basically connecting two RCA plugs from the Joying harness together. I also connected the provided GPS antenna. Everything seems to work, so I assume it's hooked up correctly. There were two small wires from the Tacoma that I left loose. I assume one was GPS. There was quite a bit from the back of the unit that wasn't hooked up to anything. Any info on anything I may have missed here is appreciated. I should add that I did not use the external mic since I didn't have time to run it. I did take a couple calls from the built in mic through CarPlay and was told it sounded good.

Once it was hooked up, I went into the various settings. I reversed the track skip, changed to Fahrenheit, set to launch Carlink on startup, changed driver door to left (no idea what this is about), changed can bus to Rav4, and looked through everything else for relevant settings. I still don't know what most of it does. Maybe one day. For now, I turn on the ignition and the CarPlay screen comes on, and that's all I will likely ever need from it.

I was worried about sound from comments I've seen, but this seems to sound a little better than the Entune; the sound settings are certainly more thorough. I will probably put a component system up front soon, but I feel like this is fine for my listening purposes. I have an audiophile system for music in my house, but I really don't care much about car audio these days.

The bottom bezel is just barely pushed in due to having only two screws in the brackets. I'd like to figure out to get that perfectly flush, but it's barely noticeable to me when I look at it; no one else would notice.

For me, this is a CarPlay module with a large screen that fits the factory cutout and retains vehicle settings (aside from music and nav screens in the instrument cluster). I would have to spend over $1000 plus Maestro to get that from a name brand. If it lasts and isn't glitchy, it was an excellent purchase. Time will tell.

I'm using Rav4 right now. I'd like to know if anyone knows which is best.

Hilux seems the most legit to me. Also fixed the radar sensors on backup screen to show in the rear.

i guess I haven’t gone through the different can box types. I think I’ve only seen the ones in xp. I’ll look again tomorrow.
My radar doesn’t currently show anything on either end. I don’t even know if I have sensors in the rear. I’m sure someone else would know.

While I am not using my headunit right now (doing some mods to it) I still love the thing. The OEM just has so many issues.

I'm having this strange issue, that I highly doubt anyone else will. I'm diabetic and have other bluetooth devices synced to my phone. My CGM (Dexcom) syncs every 5 min. During that time my audio will pause and or skip for 3-5 sec. It's very strange because it never really did it before, only recently. My CGM isn't connected to my headunit. I almost think it's my bluetooth connection messing with the wifi connection for carplay.

It got to the point yesterday on a 30 min drive, just skip/pause every 5 min. Then randomly it rebooted itself about 20 min in. Since then, it's been fine. Just found it to be strange.

Folks who are using Android Auto, can the taskbar be moved to the bottom?

I played around with the can box types. I’m having good luck with XP-Camry-18 so far. Hilux has AC controls popping up on the screen that my truck doesn’t support.
I also realized that setting the driver door side orientates the controls on the screen.

Does anyone know if it is possible to somehow change the radio app/interface ? It's supposed to show the song and artist of what's playing, but it's all glitchy and doesn't really work. Not a huge deal but it drives me crazy when I have the radio on...

If the carplay app is on auto connect it turns off the wifi to connect to the phone. The wifi also has an auto connect option and ive seen it flip back and forth. The only way I could get the carplay to leave the wifi alone was turning off the bluetooth on my phone.

Maybe it was just an earlier version of the joying, but people had been saying that the music doesnt show up right when looking at a USB drive.

I use blackplayer music player app and with it you can see all your music on a USB or hard drive by artist, album, song, etc. Works great for me. You can make up playlists and so on.

Also, being that this is running android, if you want something custom, its not impossible to make an app that does exactly what you want. I had made 2 or three apps to do what I wanted. If you dont have the skills but know what you want you can have someone else design if for not a ton of money. Then you can have just what you want.

Ordered a MB Quart powered sub yesterday. Being a non-jbl truck, I felt I needed something. I do not recall there being a remote turn on output for the amp. Can anyone clarify this?

Im going to say this is probably due to the lack of actual canbus decoding for the tacoma. In order to get the steering wheel controls to work, we use the canbus settings for other toyotas. So its probably a miss calculation on part of the canbus.

Unfortunately I can't turn it off, due to the medical devices I have sync'd to my phone. Guess I'll have to live with it.

Ended up not needing this feature. I found a ign switch trigger wire in a unused portion of the harness.
