Kind of confused after all this reading. Is there a proper NAV adapter to keep the OEM NAV antenna in service?

I was not able to get a satellite with the maestro adapter pictured below. I ended up returning it and ran the joying gps antenna up to my headliner.

Right. Well, I'm still waiting for my HU to arrive, trying to plan the attack for this weekend. I originally went the CarABC route for $200 but was unsatisfied.

Since I don't have it in front of me yet, maybe you could share if the wiring in "Harness 1" from Joying on Amazon does include the USB adapter to retain factory port on dash? Is it the red arrow? Thanksupload_2023-2-27_14-24-59.jpg

Correct, that’s it. However, mine still isn’t working. I’m going to take it out Wednesday and check my connections. I will report back if I get it working.

So HU came today. Like everybody, was unable to get OEM nav to physically connect. It’s SMB-ish but not quite. Ok, moving on, I have two USBs on back panel plus one pigtail at the same point the SIM pigtail pops from. Top one on back panel labeled OTG. Are these universal doesn’t matter what goes where?
    IMG_3055.jpg
then there are two JST looking plugs - Key and IR. No remote so prob can ignore IR but KEY? Is that used?
    IMG_3054.jpg

    thanks.

My Key/Ir plugs were left alone. I plugged the OEM USB plug adapter into to OTG for no reason, but it works. I used the two supplied USB extensions (one into the other) to run to the bottom of the center console so that I can easily plug in at any time and it be tucked away.

Ok, I did nearly the same but dropped both separately down low on drivers side. All 3 usb are either connected or extended. I ended up putting OEM USB in the pigtail and the two extensions on the back ports.

    Unless something changed,
You need Maestro sat adapters(above) to convert oem plug to SMB. Then you need a SMB adapter to match size of the hu connector to Maestro's adapter.

I had the adapters hooked up but was not getting any pings from satellites (potentially operator error), so I just kept Joying's and get on average 12-16 satellites at any given time. I returned the $30 maestro adapter and ran the joying sat antenna up the A-pillar and shoved it into the headliner.

Initial install, I stuck it to the top if the HU. I'm sure I'll be back in the dash soon enough to "fix" something

Has anyone with 3rd gen with the 6" Hu installed a 9" joying that can tell me which one to get and which install kit I will need? Or if anyone else can tell me, I would greatly appreciate it! I've searched and looked and found plenty of jbl and entune that have switched but oddly can't find anything regarding the crappiest of all 6".... Help!

    UPDATE:
Ok, nailed it after some trials. After you put a SIM card in you need to pull down from top of screen and select reboot. When it comes back up it reads the SIM. If you get an empty triangle where you’d expect to see bars then that carrier is no bueno. For me, no go on VZW or any of their lesser MVNO’s. The TMO SIM I had pulled bars. So that was step 1. Then to activate. The Joying IMEI is incompatible per the TMO site. So I took an older iPhone and got its IMEI, slid the TMO SIM into it and got it to activate on a prepaid plan. So far so good. Now to juke TMO. Open Notepad and on line 1 enter the IMEI from the IMEI1 on the Joying. On line 2 enter the iPhones IMEI. Save that file as IMEI0 (that’s a zero) with no file extension to a BLANK USB drive. Still with me? Back to the truck, plug that USB in and power it up. Let it boot. You’ll see a pop up down low on display referring to IMEI info. But don’t look at the IMEI’s in Joying yet - they’re still displaying from before. NOW pop the SIM in and then do another reboot from the top pull down menu. When it comes back up you should see bars, and if you review the IMEI’s, number 2 should match what you put into the notepad file. Pull the flash drive. You are done. Fuck yeah.

Anybody that tried the 4G - did you have issues getting the HU to see your SIM? I have several from different carriers, none showed up. Sim slots 1 & 2 always report NO SIM. Tried multiple resets (Taco off, wait 5 secs, back on) but maybe I need a deeper reset than that? I swear I saw a reboot option (not the wipe/reset option) in settings but I'm so numb from all the menu scrolling I can't seem to fins it now.

    You can easily restore them.
It happened to me once after installation. Has not happened since.

As Vlady said you can restore the contacts. My headunit has done it a few times.

I get the restore part, I was hoping in the over 1 year part it had been resolved. I emailed Joying, they did not explain why this happens but suggested I do these steps:

    Please check below:
    1. Go to joying settings
    2. Go to user/account
    3. Click on your account name (email) and then click on "Account sync" just below account name, this will open a new menu.
    4. There you can disable contacts sync option.

Has anyone installed this HU with the JBL system successfully? According to Joying you need to get their "version 2" harness for JBL. Sorry if this was already answered in this thread, I just wanna make sure before making the purchase. Thanks in advance.
