For a completely cold engine, yes. Waiting for oil temps to warm up is the only way. But if it's already warm. Waiting for the backup cam to load sucks.

Here's the option that's buried in the menu system. It's located in password protected factory settings under MCU power option.

With "Broken ACC power off" it will shut down the entire unit after a few seconds when the ignition is off. "Broken ACC sleep" as the name explains, it'll go to sleep after the ignition is turned off.
    20231217_173150.jpg

For power savings, you can set the amount of days the HU will force shut down after long periods of non use.

If anyone is curious about anything, I installed the latest version of the Joying in my Gen 3 with that came with a stock JBL headunit/amp today. It was all plug and play, in all it took me about 45 minutes to do it after having watched the install video that someone else posted on this thread recently a couple of times prior to tackling the project. Joying included everything I needed and it really was super easy. Looks really clean and flush with the existing trim and would pass for a stock headunit any day.

So far so good. I haven't had a ton of time to tinker with it yet but it seems to be working with Apple Car Play nicely so far. I didn't install the microphone that came with the unit but made some test calls and everyone said I sounded totally clear. All my steering wheel controls worked perfectly without me needed to set them. The only thing I noticed was that the Phone button on my wheel doesn't seem to be doing anything, but I honestly don't know if it did anything before the install either - I literally had never used it. I do like being able to tap the speaker button on my wheel while I'm driving, having Siri pop up and telling her who to call or text, that's been working great.

If anyone has any questions or wants me to test anything else prior to them ordering I'm happy to do so.

I recently install the 10" android unit.
Got it during Black Friday on Amazon for a pretty good price.
according to the sticker on the head unit, the batch I got is manufactured in 2023.
It came with almost everything but the GPS adapter.

Since this thread helps me a lot, I want to give back to the community.
Here is an installation video for the head unit. I slapped it together real fast. Hope it is still helpful for people.

    Some notes here:
    1. The "lantern setting" is for the buttons light color, I set it really close to the OEM blue. Let me know if you want the RGB number.
    2. The cambus setting from Joying is using camry.
    3. It came with Torque app package, you can install it via file manager.
    4. The apple car play they use now is Car-link, not Z-link anymore.
    5. when the phone reception is weak, Apple CarPlay can have slight hiccup.
    6. Without data, the temperature and weather widget is useless.
    7. I added the satellite adapter, in the setting I see it captures multiple satellites. But with google map you still need it to be online to view the satellite image. So not sure it's the satellite or google who provides the image.
    8. The car setting where you set the car lock does not function at all, but it seems to retain how I set it from the OEM unit. (need to verify.)
    9. For me, the microphone on the face panel works pretty decent, no need to wire up the additional mic.
    10. The amp in the head unit makes the OEM speakers sound better, it is a great surprise.

I did not choose the new one because of the price & the curved edges drive me nuts lol

Over all I'm very pleased with the head unit. True plug and play, stable, and smooth.
I'm using it mainly for apple CarPlay and not planning on adding data, which makes the installation even more simple.

    Awesome man! Couple questions.

    1. Can you post the RGB number you mentioned for the buttons light color? Mine came factory set to slowly cycle through all the light colors it can display and I think it looks tacky.
    2. What does the Torque app package do? I didn't see that as an option on mine.
    3. Not sure if it matters but the latest version of this head unit that I just installed does still use Zlink instead of Car-link. Is there a perk to using Car-link instead?
    4. I installed both of those 4G bars that came with my unit thinking I needed to. I don't plan to use a sim card for data either - can/should I remove them?

R 35 G 35 B 180 is the RGB I set for. And you can turn the auto off so it doesn't change color on it's own.

There are 2 "setting apps" The "Vehicle setting" is for tpms, locks, fuel economy.
"setting" is for things regarding the head units.
    Lantern settings is under here.

    2. What does the Torque app package do? I didn't see that as an option on mine.

Torque app is for people who use the ELM 327 OBD for monitoring the car. Mine came with it under "file manager -> OEM" there are four app apk in there. 3Ddontai_v1.8 (based on the mandarin pingyin, it's probably for animated wallpaper or some sort.) The other 3 are self explanatory. But I do not use any of them.
Torque is popular for people who mod their car heavily and require all time monitoring.

    3. Not sure if it matters but the latest version of this head unit that I just installed does still use Zlink instead of Car-link. Is there a perk to using Car-link instead?

I never use ZLink so not sure. If Z-link works fine, let it be. Car-link needs a 3-5 sec verification when you first load the app. After that if it's keep running in the background, the switch is instant.

    4. I installed both of those 4G bars that came with my unit thinking I needed to. I don't plan to use a sim card for data either - can/should I remove them?[/QUOTE]

Mine works fine without the 4G antenna.
But since you already installed them, Let it be, it doesn't hurt.

    :)

    None yet
Just about everything is working with my install. Was way easier than I thought.
However, my DRLs don’t work anymore. During just DRL or fogs. They only run with headlights on.
That a feature I can toggle on the screen that I haven’t come across yet or have I lost that with this unit?
Don’t know if it’s been discussed already or not. Didn’t read all 86 pages

Need to hook Techstream to enable DRLs in main body control unit.
I've been playing with those settings and I believe we need to have a Tacoma specific CAN in the selection. Camry, RAV4, etc. do not work

For the latest HU version, I have selected the following for the CAN-box. It's not Tacoma-specific, but it works. I don't have any issues with DRLs or standard features from the factory. Other than the compass and music info on the cluster, everything else is working normally.

Using AA with Zlink and I can't figure out how to change the layout. It seems I'm stuck with map up top, weather bottom left, and music bottom right.

I have a Kenwood 958Xr in my other car and it allows me to change it quite easily. It's not a deal breaker but I'd like to swap sides with music/weather or go split between music and maps.

Yes, it should not affect anything. I found that if you try to play with settings in Vehicle Info app/Setup, setting will be altered without any notification in HU

I just check my DRL this morning.
It works as intended. However there is no indication on the gauge cluster (which I think it used to have with factory HU.)
And under vehicle setting (where you can set the lock and see the TPMS) the DRL button can control the DRL be on or off, but no indication on the gauge cluster.

And my shift to P unlock, Shift to D lock works as well.

Interesting. Much like @Hattr1ck my DRLs do not work after installing the head unit. I reached out to this thread years ago, but have not figured out what screen to go to on the joying unit (previous generation) to turn the option for DRLs back on.

It might be a cambus thing or different software version.
I got mine during Black Friday and according to the sticker on the HU, it is made in Mar 2023 so maybe it has a newer version software.
Under factory setting there is an option to update the cambus firmware, maybe reach out to Joying and see if there is an update? (Please let us know if there is better version!)

However, I vaguely remember my gauge cluster lights up all the time with a light bulb indication on the cluster. But now it doesn't light up at all during the day and does not show the light bulb icon. It only lights up with the headlight when it is dark and the light sensitivity seems slower. There is also light sensitivity option on the HU, need to tweak that and see if that helps.

I feel like a total noob asking this but how did you get to this screen? I can't for the life of me find it. Everything seems to be working good button wise with my HU, but my volume is super super low for some reason. Like if I am driving on the highway I can hardly hear my radio even with the volume all the way up. I want to be sure my settings are all good.

Go to setting (where you can set things for the HU, not the one you can see TPMS and car lock.) Under factory setting (use passcode 3368) you can access the canbus version there.
Volume should be in the setting menu under sound, and there is a setting of "turn amp on or off" (I forgot the exact wording.) Make sure it's on.
And there you should be able to set system volume and start up default volume too.
I believe there are also a setting under sound that will increase the volume when you are driving fast to help with the sound.

See if any of the setting helps.

I appreciate it. I thought that's maybe where this screen lives, which explains why I haven't been able to see it yet. I've tried to access my factory settings (I'm running the latest HU Android 12) using codes 3368, 0000, 1234, amongst some others I've seen on the forums and none of them work. I just emailed Joying asking for a list of updated codes so hopefully they can assist.
