    Why not both?

Auto into manual, into transfer case.

    No...

    Never mind.

Almost certain = less uncertain than before.

That would definitely help figure some stuff out. Though the wiring for that conversion looks way more difficult than the wiring for the manual swap.

Basically stock with exception of MOLLE seat covers and trailer hitch. I have a K&N cold air kit enroute. I basically use this as a work truck and cherry picking upgrades right now
Disregard the nonsense and judgment. That is kiddy stuff. I am interested to see how this turns out. I have a 17, 2wd SR Access cab. The four banger would not be bad with a manual. It is paid off and it isn't anyone else's concern. UNLESS OF COURSE, they are paying for it. The guys telling you to buy a new truck probably don't do their own work anyhow. Good on ya brother

I came here because I have basically the same question. My 2017 has ~40k on it and I've done a ton of mods. I hate the autotragic transmission and I have a thing for manuals. I really don't want a different truck, I just want a manual tranny.

I've swapped two BMW E28s from autos to manual. I'm fully capable of doing all the work myself.

What I found here, frankly, is a bunch of drivel from a bunch of arm-chair jerks and a few, very useful posts from some obviously truly nice people.

    Disappointing and frustrating.

Unfortunately, modern vehicles are much more complicated than the switches, involve a lot of computer and swapping out ECMs, etc. It's not a straightforward as it used to be, hence the tons of back and forth with various people in here. Plus a lot of people are still trying to learn

Other than the push button start, it should be exactly the same as the 2nd gen.

Yea, that was my thinking. But before I go down that path, I'd love to know if anyone else has actually done it, and if they have what they learned.

The idea that it should be just like a 2nd gen, where this thread indicates at least one person has done it, is encouraging.

Gonna need a lot of popcorn if you’re waiting for me to do it. I have a 2nd gen and don’t ever plan on trading up. But I did convert my truck to manual. It’s not hard, just tedious.

I’m tempted to attempt a 6MT 4.0 in my ‘05 RC. Seems like some of the parts should bolt up.

If you have a 4.0 already mated to a manual 6P, you should be able to put the entire thing in there with minimal effort.

Well I don't think the word "minimal" is what I would use. + side it doesn't need a crank bushing! Hydraulics, petal assembly, wiring, holes in the floor, little thigs like that. I honestly don't know are the transmission the same length? Just checked they are not. This is right down to how badly do you need to do this? The parking brake even fit's in to this project it's different too. Ever thing you need is in a totaled truck roll over would be good just lay it on it's side!

Are you responding to the guy that said he would consider putting a 4.0 + 6MT into his ‘05?

for cost of all the parts or buying a wrecked truck you really are better off trading truck for a manual in the first place. swap any aftermarket parts over that you have. the wiring harness and ecu is gona be biggest issue. also need manual specific driveshafts and crossmember.

i would like to see somebody do a dclb manual swap though.

For me, it was way cheaper to do the swap then to trade in. I did the MT swap for less than the taxes on a new truck. And finding a good condition MT truck is tough.

The hardest part is not the wiring or the ECU. Those are actually pretty easy. The ECU is about ~$250 from a junkyard and the wiring is pretty minimal. The driveshafts are easy bc you just take them to a driveline shop and they will retube and balance them for about $100/ea. The crossmember does need to be modified so you will need a welder. But it’s also not too difficult. A friend that knows how to weld could mod it in an hour.

Like the I said, the 3rd gen is very similar to the 2nd gen. The only unknown is the push button start. But it looks doable based on the wiring diagrams posted earlier in this thread.
