3rd Gen Automatic to manual swap

Not having an input to the Neutral/Parking settings of the auto transmission for the Certification ECU can be substituted and the shift lock ECU is not needed, but I'm sure there's lots more to do.

 

One of the only things I can think of that rapidly makes a truck worth less money is this.

Wow. I'm blown away that anyone would consider this with a 1yr old truck.

 

Probably easier to just swap the ECM.

 

Why does it matter how much money it’s “worth”? I personally don’t plan on selling or trading my truck. So it’s value is meaningless to me.

 

Maybe keep the front wheels attached to the auto, and put in a second, manual transmission in the bed, run off a belt from the T-case, to run the rear wheels?

 

Do it.....sure you wont have any warranty on the drivetrain anymore but I want to see someone do the conversion. Save all your bills so we can see how astronomical the final cost is in the end.

 

Either way he didn’t ask us the make the decision for him. I’m give him accurate information from a source that has actually done a conversion like this. I won’t speculate about something I have no first hand knowledge of. Then I’ll let him make the decision for himself. Whatever he decides doesn’t have to make sense to me.

 

If you sold it and bought a manual, you'd probably be out less money on the depreciation of both than what it would cost you to do the conversion.

 

Sell it. Be patient and buy the truck you actually wanted in the first place. It may take a bit to find a manual, but I bet it takes less time than swapping out the transmission.

 

You forgot about TTL fees. Those are more of a killer than depreciation. I did my manual conversion for ~$1800. Taxes alone is about $2500 for me.

Just go buy a MT model, geez........

Use the time saved for higher priorities like off roading, cool mods, drinking beer or family.

Swapping the mechanical hardware is pretty straight forward, what's going to cost you the most headaches is reprogramming the computers. Took the BMW guys the better part of a decade to sort it all out so the cars would run correctly after a swap.

This makes sense when the flappy paddle gearbox costs more than the car is worth to replace, but on a new truck with crazy residuals I don't see much sanity in this one.

I have transmission swapped my other 4 cars, so I have a little bit of a clue on this one.

You can probably just swap to the manual ECM. For me this was the easiest part of the conversion.

 

I’d wager on an OR this might cause it to freak out more with the crwal control and all that stuff of course I guess you could simp,y bypass/disable it but really it sounds like a lot more cost and effort than just looking for a manual and trading fwiw
