The irony of this post given how many people in this thread are triggered by how the OP spends his money.

More disappointment and sarcasm at this point, not exactly frustrated. I've been on the internet for a long time now and I realize how stupid some people are but it still never ceases to amaze me.

i swapped my second gen from 2wd auto to 4x4 manual. if you keep the drive the same it will be easier. aka if 2wd auto to 2wd manual and same for 4x4. if the third gens are the same frame then the transmission cross member for the 2wd is farther back than the 4x4. i think about 2". the clutch pedal and parking brake lever will need to be custom mounted to the firewall. the mounting points are not there for different. i used factory parts and made some spacers. if you have the ambition, time and funds anything is possible. di suggest lots of research. i know the 6sp for the 3gen is different than the 2gen. dont know if the bolt patterns are the same or different. if you find they are the same let me know, i think the ratio for the 3 gen would be better in the 4.0. but thats my 2 cents.
oh yeah, welcome to the rabbit hole.

The thing is that there are some really knowledge people here. But you have to weed through a lot of garbage posts to find the few people with helpful info.

Lot of people here just want to judge or make a decision for someone. If I would have followed the advice given here, I would have ended up with a car loan for ~$12k more than what I had. For less than $3k I did a 4wd and a manual conversion (would have been cheaper if I was committed to doing them at the same time). Now I have what I want, saved money and learned a bunch along the way. So I’m not a big fan of forcing my opinion of the situation onto someone. Only you can decided what’s best for you.

That said, how much of the work do you think you can do yourself? It will cost a lot more of you have to pay a shop to do everything. But if you can tackle replacing a clutch then you can probably do at least 90% of the swap yourself (though you might still need to educate yourself on things along the way).

I can tell you your forgetting the different gears that come with the manual. I wouldn't want a manual transmission with the gears that come with the automatic. I don't know if you can get your push button start to work with the manual either.

Does anyone have a link to the PDFs of all the wiring diagrams for 2020?

Everyone else knows this too, so you can't expect everyone to read numerous pages before giving you some drive by advice. That's just how I do it anyway. Maybe it helps and maybe it doesn't. What frustrates people here is when someone joins and their first thread is "what is the biggest tire I can fit..." or something. Your thread might be seen as along the same track because it's kind of ridiculous. Anyway, you do you, good luck and Godspeed.

on the second gen the difference in gear ratios for the 4x4 and pre-runner was 3.73 for v6 and 4.1 for 4cyl. now when you move to the 5 lug there are more ratios depending on options. with the 3gen there is no 5 lug option so that will cut down on options out there.

I can do most the work myself. I am in school now to be a motorcycle mechanic. I do have experience working on cars with my father and grandfather and I do enjoy a challenge.

I think you got it in the bag then. Just need to figure out the wiring stuff. Not sure on the 3rd gen if you can just swap the ECM and still retain all your limited features. Hoping someone can post the wiring diagrams. Then we can start to sort these things out. Mechanically, I think the procedure is probably the same as the 2nd gen for the most part.

There's always a white knight defending the manual swaps.

The ECU is 1000$ you'd have to make you're own harness or pay 4000$

Then you have a new master cylinder reservoir, clutch master and slave with lines and new pedal assembly.

Then you need the shifter swapped out. This isnt a 1000$ honda, its a 40,000$ truck which it sounds like was given to you.

Oh ya and the hard to find transmission. It goes on and on.

op does not care about cost, or complexity....he just wants someone to tell him it's cool.

For someone suggesting something pretty dumb, he needs thicker skin. I express surprise at what sounds like a bad idea and get called a twat.
