Hello all! First post, hopefully this hasn't been addressed already, I've searched I promise!

Sooo I got a new stereo, Sony xav-ax8100. After going through the process, connecting all the wires to the new harness and then connecting to the truck harness ect, connected the stereo and ran it, annnnnnd my backup cam wasn't coming on, I'll address this question later if necessary. Otherwise everything worked, steering controls ect. After abandoning the new stereo install, I put the stock stereo back, reconnecting all the plugs exactly as they'd been when I removed it, besides the fact that I took plenty of pics they are all keyed plugs and only go back one way, and I didn't modify any of the stock wires/harness. Once I got all the plugs reconnected and stereo back in I fired the truck and the backup cam no longer works, everything else works fine anyone have any suggestions? My first thought was a fuse, but apparently the backup cam is powered by the same source that powers the stereo and that still works, in fact everything else works fine other than the backup cam.

If your new Head Unit placed more voltage then required, you fried the camera.:violent:

In other words, reconnect after market stereo then disconnect wires at camera a see how much voltage the new stereo is pushing, if it's higher than the values in the chart you posted I friend the cam? I do remember touching some yellow and black wires together that were labeled "OEM camera power" and it "sparked" a tiny amount, could that have done it? I tried attaching a photo to this post.

Could be, but I found this:

Did you also install the "additional" harness?

I did not, no one mentioned that, that said, I'm not sure how that adapter harness would fit, appears to me like it would require a male rca style plug to work, there weren't any rca style plugs like that going into the stock stereo. Do you by chance know what the backup camera input looks like? This is the photo of the plugs going into the stock stereo, I don't know which is the backup cam.

Still need to figure out why the camera stopped working, I suspect you're right though, I need to figure this out too.

If I recall correctly I used the blue one and the one just left of it, plus the main plug, center toward the top, wondering if that top left plug would be the one that fits into the ty12 you linked. But there's no rca style plug coming from the truck harness, though there is a female rca style female plug on the Sony stereo I'm trying to install.

Here's a photo of the Sony stereo, as you can see there's the yellow "camera" female rca plug so, would make sense there's a male coming from the stock side but, there isn't.

You should have disconnected the battery. Maybe you blew a fuse?

From what I've read, you should disconnect the battery if your doing anything with wires.

When I bought my new tunes from Crutchfield it came with this. All my factory stuff worked perfect.

Yeah, no question, I'm not one for safety measures, that said, it's not necessarily critical, I didn't smoke anything else, in other words the stereo still works. I do need to check the fuse panel but I'm pretty sure the stereo wouldn't be working either as they are both powered by the same source. One thing that confuses me is how I could have smoked the camera even if it wasn't actually hooked up, unless it went through the module and back down the through the harness.

That looks a lil less complicated than the one mine came with, otherwise though everything went well, the steering wheel controls all worked, sounded fine, was a lil unclear re the dash kit, the back up cam deal was the only thing that didn't work.

My guesstimate is: the additional harness is for adding an aftermarket camera (that requires RCA connection) or using the vehicle one.

But wouldn't there be an rca style male plug on the factory harness side either way?

If the OEM stereo works, and wiring to rear camera is okay, go to auto salvage yard, and see if get any rear tailgate cameras in stock. If no more, look on eBay, or install aftermarket camera. Last resort go dealer, about rear camera.:fingerscrossed:

So the question remains, which of the plugs going into the stock stereo is the backup cam? Either way, I appreciate your help!

Yeah I found some on ebay already, I'll check salvage yards though, good idea!

Disconnect the 2 largest and count the slots, one has 28, the correct one has 24.
