I ordered a Lund roll up elite. It's the canvas cover like a soft top rather that shiny vinyl most covers are. I needed a roll up for when I put my snowmobile in the bed and such. I was going to get a solid fold like my father has on his 15 but I would need to store it when using the bed.

NICE. I want a hard cover so i can store stuff in like stroller and such. Don't want to worry about parking at malls without people messing with it if its canvas.

    Here's mine! 2016 TRD Off-road DCSB.

Just two weeks old and my first Toyota. I love the color, even more after two coats of Meguiars Gold. Great community here, will stick around for a while!

Can anyone give me tips on wax or clay or whatever I can do to protect the paint. Never owned a new car so never bothered with this stuff. I found a few chips on my hood and want to do something to protect the paint. Forgive me for my ignorance haha

Prep work is key and a good weather day. First buy a brand new set of microfiber clothes, nice quality applicator pads, and a good brand of wax like Meguiars. While at the store also buy some quality car wash soap, sponges, and rags dedicated to washing your vehicles only. DO NOT use dish soap (like dawn), it will strip wax and rain-x.

I prefer the liquid wax as opposed to the compound. Less chances for junk to contaminate the compound while you're using it over time, or dry out.

Red is a pretty forgiving color. Black is the hardest to maintain. I've claybar'd black sports cars I've owned in the past, which is a long and laborious process. For the most part with a truck you won't really have to clay bar. Clay-bar is mostly designed to get microscopic debris stuck on the clear coat, mostly flat services like the hood and roof. Think of it like plaque getting stuck on your teeth. If you've owned the vehicle for awhile and never waxed it, then you'll really aught to start off with a thorough clay bar'ing.

After a thorough wash and hand drying, start off with a coat of Cleaner Wax as this will remove impurities from the clear coat. After one or two coats of Cleaner Wax, if you see swirl marks then you'll have to use a polishing compound. Once you have a perfect mirror finish, then do your final coats with a premium Carnuba based product. My favorite is Meguiars Gold Class.

Until you get your comfort level up with waxing manually by hand, don't use any mechanical tools to "speed up" the process. If you don't use those tools right you risk doing major harm to your truck's paint. Even with all my years of waxing, I still prefer to do it the old fashioned way.

Its always best to re-wax your vehicles when you can rub your hand over the paint and it doesn't feel completely smooth, kinda feels like it has resistance when you rub.

    Happy to help!

Watch this guy prep-detail a new car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bG7oVjg77o

As someone who was in the detailing business for nearly 10 years, be very very careful asking forums for detailing advice. Everyone with a bucket will dish out advice like an expert.

Wow. For a DD Toyota truck like mine that is just "over the top" OCD for me. But then again I'll never own a McLaren, thanks for posting.

DO use dish soap if you're planning on detailing your new car to remove all contaminants. You're right, it will strip everything. If he has no wax or anything on it currently, then stripping the paint of everything will only help him.

Liquid wax and compound are not interchangeable. They are two totally different products. Apples and oranges. Contamination or drying-out won't be an issue if you leave the bottles closed.

No need in waxing if you're just going to compound and remove it all anyway with compound. Since this is a new car, i'd suggest just claybaring it and waxing. Compound should not be involved in prepping a new car. There's not enough paint "damage" to warrant it. You do want to make sure it's clean though - hence the clay.

If you feel resistance like that, do not wax-over the problem. Wax is not designed to remove impurities, that's what clay is for. If you rub that resistance into the paint with your wax-pad, you'll create more issues.

Love mine. Got it back Oct 4, I think. Went fishing the day after the TX tornadoes; the day of the snowstorm west of Fort Worth. Love the 4x4

    The day I got it:

And Saturday though today since I still haven't washed it.. Detailers probably hate me :) But I gained a new two tone color option.

Melting snow and dirt/sand roads always get nice and slushy this time of year. No point in washing it every other day till I know it'll be dry for a while. But it's always pristine in the summer. At least my Tundra was. She looked like new till the day I traded her in 6 years later.
