Thank you very much. You still recommend scuffing it up even with the cans of paint that dont require it?

Did you ever got around yours? I live in Sacramento and planning on doing mine tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well. I feel pretty confident!

No i didnt. I had a 09 tacoma that i did this project on but since these lights have permaseal i guess its tougher to separate the lights now. Im just paranoid i will break mine. Keep us posted on how it turns out. Also what model is your truck? SR, SR5 or the TRD?

What did you put in place of the permaseal? The stuff here the people recommended Butyl or retrorubber?

blood, sweat, and tears getting that nasty stuff out. sig; what did you re-seal with?
Going on a year with my retro, 100% using retrorubber. Been through some big storms, and now with plate front bumper=whole bottom is exposed and still good.

I searched butly sealant and Lowe's had it in stock, so I figured why not try it since I'm usually bz and don't have time around it. To be honest I think I used the wrong butly... Not sure if there's different kind or not but I didn't like the way it was seated. Guess I'm going to wait it out and hopefully it doesn't leak.. If it does, guess ill have to take it apart. At least i don't have to struggle with those original premaseal. I was begging for my wife to help me clean it but she refused lol

Thats the color i used on my 09 and thats what i want to use for my 17 sr. Did you break any small parts or tabs craking them open? I dont know whats stopping me from moving forward with this mod. Just dont feel confident in doing it.

I use matte. Found it a Little harder to find(everywhere had either flat, or satin) but has the perfect sheen IMO.

I Originally got matt but realize satin is what I should use.. I broke two mounting tab on the left side of headlight while putting it back on the truck. I was being very careful not to break anything but I think the tabs got weaken during bake process. It so fragile that little to no pressure broke it off. Not a big deal.
