I was a bit surprised at what they replaced but now it’s perfect. They ended up replacing the bumper reinforcement w/tow package ($570), step pad ($244) and the RR end side support ($190).

It's cool that the dealer did all that for you. Other people have complained that dealers told them the bumper is not adjustable.

I just picked the highest rated local Toyota dealer on Yelp. It also helps to do a little research and being cordial with your service writer.

I just took my 2 day old 2020 Pro in for this exact problem. Toyota of Redlands said everyone complains about the bumper being misaligned. There is nothing they can do about it.

I bet if you noticed and mentioned it before you signed the deal that they would be able to do something about it.

Absolutely! The OE rear bumper is a joke all will disitigrate not only off road but if the neighborhood kid hit it will a nerf ball (do kids even play outside anymore?). High clearance rear bumper is a must for looks and performance.

Now as far as gaps and alignment of aftermarket bumpers are concerned...just make sure your buddy spotting the install (three beers in) doesn't tell you "looks good" before you tighten all the bolts down!

Well, just noticed this on mine too.

Spent about an hour trying to figure out if someone hit me but no way, checked the dashcam footage and nothing. Looked at the first pics I took at the dealer and bam, noticed it instantly.

That's a pretty crappy "common" issue. Laziness. Makes me wonder what else they got wrong... Probably nothing, but dayum, really....

If my dealer says that, I'm going to show them this thread. That's pure laziness on their part. They know about it and they know how to fix it. Make them do it.

To the assholes talking about being picky... Yea, I am when I spend 40k and I am for a $1 spray paint can... Maybe you just don't value a dollar and your financial situation is laughable, but I'll take that $1 can back and get one I can use.

Because I bought it to use it. And I bought a new truck to not have a used bumper that looks like its been in an accident. If you are not concerned with it, ignore the thread. Pretty simple concept, huh? Take your own advice when preaching online.

We came here for a solution on how to fix it and it's nice to see we are not alone. I hope you receive the "ignore it" advice when your basement floods, or your septic tank clogs. Or both, your basement fills with septic tank flooding, lol. Suck it. Who let you boomers online anyways?

I just looked at mine today, and the bed is level with the cab rear window. It's just the bumper. I got underneath looking for things to realign and drew a blank. Everything seems lined up! It's crazy. Hopefully the dealer will have a solution, I am calling them today. But I still think this kind of defect is unacceptable. A couple mm's? Sure, but over 2 inches of difference? No.

Dealer is going to take care of it under factory warranty. It's just odd that this is not necessarily a common thing, but it's also not unknown. The dealer said it's usually the bed too, but mine seems to be lined up. Whatever, as long as they are fixing it that's all I care about. There is always something and this might just be due to the way the tacoma's align their bed. Would be interesting to know what factory it was assembled in and it can be traced to a specific factory, or if it is in fact a toyota thing. I'd like to believe that something so visible would not pass a QC inspection, because this is inches, not mm's. I didn't notice it right away, but at a factory there should be protocall in place to ensure this stuff gets checked off before shipped. Anyways, will update with what the dealer says later on.

you just loosen the bolts where the bumper attaches to the frame and move it around?

The bumper is made up of a few pieces. If I remember right you have to take a few off to get to the part of it to adjust. However, it has been so long I can’t quite remember ha

My rear bumper didn't have a misalignment until my wife backed my Tacoma into a concrete bench.
