How many catalytic converters are on my truck? I've read that Toyota put the cats closer to the engine making it more difficult to get to. Living in CA cats are a popular target. Co-worker has had his cut off twice on his Tundra, both at work.

When I look underneath I can see what is up closer in the engine bay, but there are two other sections that look like cats further back. Are there only two (engine bay) or are there four total with two further back?

Two next to the engine, plus two next to the transmission.

The two next to the engine do most of the work. The two next to the transmission are downstream of the O2 sensors, so they actually can be deleted without setting a code. However, in CA, you probably won't pass visual inspection.

    I'm certain of that.

I know little about cars. The idiot in me thinks hey, just remove the cats by the transmission and put the aluminum covers back on. They won't notice, right? :D

    Why remove them?
This isn't 1985, you're not going unlock 35 more magical horsepower.
Also, look in to replacement costs, that'll probably affect your curiosity too.

LOL. Not looking to. My friend texted me that cat stealing was rising again and toyotas were being targeted. I joked that I'd cut them off myself and sell them since there are 4.

Besides, why cut them off when I can just add stickers?
