    Hey Guys

Can you post pictures of where you mounted your CB Transceivers? I'm trying to decide where to place it but it doesn't look like we have as many options as in the 1st and 2nd gen trucks.

    Thanks

    Cheers

Mines in the mail should be here tomorrow hopefully!

I have no pics but from what I've researched... people are placing them either:

    * little cubby where the random light is under the radio.
    * on the right side of that cubby on the passenger side.
    * inside the center console
    * hanging off the rear cup holders on the center console.
    * underneath the cubby on the left side of the steering wheel.

Cobra 75 wx st behind the dash.
Switched the male/female mic connections so I could mount male connection into a blank switch.
I connect the mic when I need it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Added #s

Here are my thoughts on each of those locations.

    1. I just got a Uniden 520XL and I like it in that wireless charging cubby but it seems like it may render the right cupholder useless, at least for holding big cups.

    2. The right side of the cubby is great but my radio does not have channel scanning and it'll be uncomfortable reaching the radio while driving.

    3. The center console of our trucks are small as-is, so I want to keep it for storage.

    4. Harder to reach

    5. I like this location but I'm not a lefty. Not a big deal though. it may be where I place it.

Nice and clean. I opted for a traditional compact radio (Uniden 520XL) but this is a great solution for those with the Cobra 75wx.

I really like this setup as I am a minimalist at heart. Where did you mount the external speaker? Pics?

The Cobra 75WXST has the mic in the handle, along with controls so I connect it when I need it. Not external speaker to install. The "box" is mounted under the dash just behind the mic connection.

I just picked up a President Johnny III - it's a compact unit that I hope makes for a clean install. I will post pictures after install.

That's great! I've heard complaints from others about being able to hear it though and hence the need for an external speaker. Have you had issues with volume?

Not as loud as an external speaker but I've had no issues.

I've been thinking about getting a CB for my truck.

    Interesting thread. Thanks for posting.

How'd you swap the connections? I'm assuming you opened up the connectors and desoldered the jack pins and just swapped them?

I'm thinking of mounting my jack under the HVAC using an extension harness to allow for easy mounting of the control box. Regardless, I like the idea of having it in a blank and your setup is ideal.

So I'm going to tip my hand and show that I'm a total noob at this... is most of what people use CBs for is listening to local chatter? Usually if I'm offroading I bring along FRS radios if I need someone to be a spotter or we need to talk between vehicles, but the range on that is obviously limited.

@dubNation that looks REALLY slick, by the way. I may just have to copy you.

I don't have an official build thread on how I did the install. But if you wanna check out my IG, I have posted quite about on this. You might need to scroll down a bit to find it. But I did a time-lapse video of installing the mic mount under the arm rest pad.

Thanks, just wanted something accessible and hidden at the same time.

To be honest, I have a CB and Ham, but rarely use them. The only time we use them is when we off-road with a group of people. Some people will have either or, but not both, so what people have on a given trip will vary. The CB option is by far more expensive compared to my Ham. I think the CB costs twice as much as my HAM radio.

Thanks man, happy to spread the wealth of good ideas. ;)

That's exactly what I did. I am TERRIBLE at soldering but I did it without issue. I did order some of those "helpings hands" which helped keep a steady hand.
