To each their own. I'm not sure on the strength of aluminum. If you prefer weight savings then go Aluminum. I prefer the strength of steel so I sacrifice weight savings (and some dollars).

The DCLB don't stop me from going wheeling. I prefer the extra bed space and don't mind the departure angles and occasional high centering. Makes for a more fun time!

My BSM stopped working and I got the RAV4 mirrors. Besides a minor shadow in the passenger mirror, I prefer them. No light for cross traffic, burn now I can glance and *see* the blind spot instead of hoping a sensor worked.

Definetly loosing strength. Is it worth it? Only you can answer what’s right for your rig. Daily driver, camping rig, mall crawler, LT, SAS and overland cult guys all have diffrent opinions on if it’s worth the weight savings.

Hey buddy. Just seen this thread, if you had to guess would you think these skids would work with the factory bumper and factory off road tow hook? I tried reaching out to cbi but still no response.

I'm glad to hear that it's still a capable rig as a long bed.

That being said, the long bed platform is usually not a choice for rock crawling, they're just too long overall.

    That's pretty nice!

Actually I was looking at marlin crawlers site, they have some nice options for the 3rd gen....it's just a boatload of money get it set up with that and 35s.

    That's badass!
What's your plan for the suspension to fit them?
Too tall/top heavy is never good for a rig.....u less you're just mudding.

I'd guess you'll wan to upgrade the axles too. I'm sure you're planning on wheeling and not malling.

She has a build thread here.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/burthas-build-thread.500166/

That thing is a monster. Lol
I was excited to see she put some Chevy 63s on that thing. I did the same, but I haven’t forked out the money for long travel up front yet.

sas is when it gets real.......but that taco box vid is still IFS and would drag that up anything.

It's nice to have a drivable crawler that's not your DD....I just don't see myself doing that on a brand new truck.

My former wheeling buddies are pretty solid fabricators.

Tape off both sides before cutting to ensure it’s even. A cherry picker will make it a lot easier on your back. I recommend using a multi occulting tool like in my video with this type of cutting blade.
